Which Stretch?

I really, really like the Superblue. I'm a fan of VG 10 and ZDP as well, so it was a hard choice for me. But the Superblue is very pleasant to sharpen, seems to stay sharp well, and for some reason I can get it sharper than my other steels. Maybe it's my technique, or lack there of--I mostly sharpen freehand on Shapton Pro "stones," first the 1k and then the 5k. I have not had any issues with rust or pitting. The exposed Superblue has taken on a rather lovely gray patina and I like the look of the laminated blade more than I thought I would. I probably would prefer that it was solid SB, but no big deal. The Stretch itself has also become one of my favorite Spydies. I don't feel it at all in my pocket, yet the blade is plenty big-- the perfect size for my uses. Designwise it really is a home run: almost the size of the Delica with almost as much blade as the Endura. Just the right amount of belly. I carry my Para 2 more because I prefer the action and lock, and it's an awesome knife too, but the Stretch performs better for me and is more comfortable in the hand and in the pocket.

Almost forgot to add, the gray FRN is beautiful!

I can agree with nearly all of this, except the sharpening where I use a Sharpmaker instead. :)

Sal has developed a Stretch with a larger finger choil and a wider blade. It is due to be released this year with brown G10 and a solid ZDP-189 blade. If that speaks to you you may want to wait for it to come out. If it's well received an FRN version with the updates will be released. I don't own a Stretch yet, I'm waiting for the G10 version.

I was going to say vg-10 due to it going to be a user abd that would be a base model, but this described strech sounds awesome; i say get the ZDP-brown g10 :D

Gratuitous photo of my Stretch:

I just picked up my first Stretch in ZDP-189 to go with my Delica 4 in the same handle and blade material. How did I overlook this model? It feels great in hand. I generally am not a fan of FRN handles, but in my opinion Spyderco has the best and most refined FRN handles on the market. They don't have the flimsy and cheap feeling that some others do. Their 'bi-directional' traction pattern actually works well - and I like how they put a smooth section under the contact point of the pocket clip. It all makes for a great working knife.

I'd agree wholeheartedly. I love the Stretch and, while I most often carry one or the other of these two...

...I still find myself carrying this one at least once or twice a week...

And, with all that, I'm still, anxiously awaiting the new G-10 "Stretch 2".

These are the two Stretches I own.

I would get the Super Blue sprint while they are still available.

Nice photos, Bearfacedkiller! I concur about getting the SB version while they are still available. Won't be around. Ugh longer I bet.

I usually don't ponder where the name comes from but why "Stretch"?
As opposed to Dodo, Spur, Spin, "Q", Pegasus or...

...need I go on? ;)

Perhaps because it's the "stretched" version of the Hunter. That, of course, is just a guess. I'd love to hear Sal's answer.

Well I broke down and ordered the Sprint Run Stretch in Super Blue after I found a vender that still had some.

I've seen the color on the SB Stretch called Denim Blue. It's definitely not the same grey as a Grey Delica.

I think Denim Blue was actually the description for the Kahr Arms Delica frn. I have one of those and it's definitely close to a typical pair of jeans...

It isn't the denim blue and it isn't grey. I don't have the denim blue Kahr Arms Delica but I do have some Super Blue which is a greyish blue. Here are some pics of the Super Blue Delica next to a grey Delica and the Super Blue Delica next to the BBS Lil' Matriarch.

Yeah, I see now... That Kahr Delica is definitely way more Blue. My SB Stretch in some light looks purple to me.

It's Denim Blue compared to my Acid washed 80's Levis.:D
