Which Survival Celebrity?

All I know is I would NOT pick Les. All I see that guy do is spend all of his usable daylight getting the perfect weave on a POS shelter that ends up sucking and the rest of the time not eating and bitching about how tired he is. If I was stuck with him and he came back to camp with a skewer of a few grasshoppers, or having successfully built the worst fish weir ever imagined, or set up a bunch of figure four deadfalls that couldn't get out of their own way, I'm eating him.

I'd have to go with her first, mainly because shes hot and can't speak ;) but Ray Mears would be second. He has proven himself in all climates, is highly knowledgeable and confident but is not careless.

It is often hard to estimate what a person would be like in a stressful situation
and what they would be like in a really bad situation. Also, the way each would
interact with you in particular would be important.

That being said:
I think Les would be like he is on the show. Methodical. A few experiments, but
nothing grand. I think he would interact, listen, and inspire. And I have never met
the guy, only seen his show.

My philosophy: do not expend energy except for a good reason.

I respect the others mentioned, with the partial exception of Bear, who I suspect
COULD act very differently (i.e. rationally) in a real survival situation.

I do not know who the Indian from the 50s is. Do you have some hints to jog our
memories?

Kelly Brook from the movie Survival Island. Have you seen her in that white bikini?

As a leading purveyor of a lot of her pix in W&C, I say HELL YEAH! Kevin's got good taste

Yeah, I'd probably die, but I'll die with a big smile of my face :D

I heard Nicole Kidman was a survival expert, I would choose her!

Ummm yep, or Catherine Zita Jones! After all you have to take into account how important morale is to a survival situation, and I'm quite sure she could keep my ummm morale up.
Seriously tho, from what I've seen I have to agree at least in part with what was said earlier about Les Stroud seeming to waste time and energy doing the wrong things, and not doing them well. Ray Mears does really seem to know his stuff and if there's not a local resident, especially a native american resident that has retained much of the knowledge from his cultural background I'd go with .....Catherine !

Jeez Mick, now I have another aussie to admire. Up in Canada we have got to see the bush tucker man quite a bit,but I'd never heard of Malcolm Douglas before. So how do you feel about that barefoot guy? The one with Rambo III knife?

I'm going to vote for Kelly Brook, too. I probably wouldn't survive the experience, but I'd have a smile when I went. Hey, I'm old, and ya gotta go sometime, and when ya do, it would be nice to be holding something like Kelly Brook.

Bear does stupid things for tv ratings. In a real survival situation he wouldnt be acting so silly. Id choose Bear. Im not in the best shape. Someone needs to be in good physical condition.

The Les Stroud you see on tv is a partial construct for dramatic purposes - to please the masses, not people like us.

Take for example, the episode in the heat where it took him hours to get a bow drill coal - BS. Les used to be a canoeing guide in Algonquin. One whole summer he lit all his fires with bow drill. The less (no pun inteneded)-than-competent Les you see on the screen is for the general public that are waiting to see what will happen next. Kind of like the crowd that goes to a car race, half hoping there will be a crash.

Les would be a fine choice if you were stuck in the woods.

Doc

Les, then Ray or, a party of three (Les+Ray) with Bear in third place but Bear strictly for entertainment purposes.
Bear as the wilderness court jester to do stupid dangerous things to entertain everyone else.
Aside from his questionable risk-taking Bear generally seems like a likable fellow, kinda like that kid you knew in elementary school who would eat worms and boogers to gross out the girls! lol.
:D
