Which Survival Celebrity?

Without a doubt Bear Grylls!

I think he would challenge me, and I love doing extreme stuff. But I will pass on the extreme eating he does.

I think it would be a very fun adventure.

I'll take Nessmuk's old bones. Maybe I could learn a thing or three through osmosis.

Well nobody mentioned our celebrity mod Estela yet. He'd be good even if he told me I was going off topic from time to time :D Jeff Randall or Mike Perrin would be great even if they told me to quit buying their knives :D Les would be great, but I think I'd take control of the fishing for food part. Ray Mears sort of annoys me a bit, can't quite put my finger on it. Bear....No thanks. It would take me too long to teach him stuff. Cody Lundin, he would be cool to talk to.

I do not know who the Indian from the 50s is. Do you have some hints to jog our
memories?

There is a video about him on youtube somewhere, he took a reporter out into the canadian bush to survive and eventually make it out after a week or so. The documentary was made in the 1950's. The indian made a birch bark canoe with nothing more than an axe. He didn't even carry a knife. Wound up killing a bear too.

First choice Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin.

Second choice Dave Canterbury and Cody Lundin.

Obviously You have never hung out with those guys ;). And if you are a Pastor, I would actually advise against any contact with them.

Real Life: Ray Mears- He has a magnetic passion.

Movie life- Crocodile Dundee
1 part Herpetologist/hunter
1 part Survivalist
All Part drinking buddy/cool as a cucumber.

I'd have to go with Les Stroud. Three reasons. First, because I think that he really knows his stuff. Second, because his regular stomping grounds are pretty similar to mine, which would make for good synergy in a typical survival situation. Third, because I think that he would be the sort of guy that would make it through a survival situation and then laugh about it over pints afterwards. And I suspect that he would insist on buying a round of nice microbrew. With Bear, you'd probably be stuck with overpriced bottles from the hotel minibar. ;)

All the best,

- Mike

I would definitely go for the Hoods myself. I learned more about hypothermia in 5 minutes of his video than I did in days of training with the local SAR.

I would NOT choose Mears. He's always building things. I'm lazy.:)

Can't say I've ever heard of him. Do you have any links that might provide me with some additional info?

Kind regards
Mick
I think the show was called "Killer Instincts" or at least thats the name it was packaged under in North America.
OLN used to play it i remember seeing maybe 10 or so episodes.
The survival guy was a burly guy with a big black bushy beard and head of hair.
Walked everywhere barefoot and hung out with the various Australian native tribes learning their methods, hunting/fishing/foraging, also talking about native plant and animal species.
Used a Rambo 3 knife.
In later episodes he started doing some historical survival stuff as well.
The last episode i saw was him leading an expedition to some historical plane crash site up in the mountains (high elevation).
I think the show was from the 90's.
I liked the show but i saw Bushtuckerman after this series, there was some thematic overlap between the two series.
