I have a question regarding blade thickness Im hoping someone can help me with and this thread seems to be the one to ask it in.
Its about the grind angle. With 2 blades of the same design but different thickness. Do they grind both at the same angle? Does the grind line show up lower on the blade height on the thinner blade or do they grind the thinner blade with a longer grind to make the grind line in the same place for both thicknesses?
I have always been partial to full height flat grind to get the tallest angle for the edge. The saber grind on 2 different thicknesses confuses me as to which one has a taller grind. And its hard to tell from the pics.
You guys are killing me. I had convinced myself that I don't need this knife. Now you put me smack back on the fence. I am going to have to swing for a thin blade I think. YOUR KILLING ME lol. I did not order a WTF and I am already regretting it. I was sick that weekend and just too easily talked myself out of it. Now I am looking back and REGRETTING IT. I am telling myself it is one of kind enough to come around again.....eventually.
I went with 3/16" since I thought the NMFSH was a little beefy for its length. Slightly thicker .22" or .25" would have been preferred but no complaints (it's not like .187" is going to snap when used hard).
I also went with Maroon canvas to try something new and a Sage blade, but was torn between Muddy and Tanker.
I went with the same color scheme. Been getting that one since they started offering maroon canvas, gonna have a nice collection once operation 2 weeks is over.![]()
Yup, 3/16" fusion is actually something new, 5/16" fusion is more of the same sans INFI.![]()
Hard to say. We are in some new territory, with multiple models coming out offered at different thicknesses. We just don't have thta many field reports to compare.
IMHO, the important variable is the thickness right behind the edge. Geometry cuts. Geometry cuts. Geometry cuts. So it doesn't matter as much whether the angle on the main bevel is 12 or 20, what matters is if the edge is 0.020" thin or 0.050" thick. All my large users have been improved by reprofiling the edge geometry.
If I get one, it will be 3/16", it seems the folks arguing thicker to be a bigger chopper forget that most of that extra thickness goes into the handle where nothing is ground off for a primary bevel. In my experience after using at least 50 different designs now it seems that the thicker the Busse the harder it is to get it to bite deep when chopping, yet the thin ones still slice and chop just fine. You aren't going to break a thin one any more than you've heard of busted AK's.
According to the email I just received, the 3/16" was the way most went.......
Not necessarily. Busse may not have produced an even split between the thicknesses. They could have anticipated the thicker being more popular and made more in that thickness.
That being said, I went with the 3/16...
Yep, 3/16 knives are everywhere.Thought I was safe but just broke down. Went with sage and maroon in 5/16. I have 3/16 more than covered in other busse blades.
Any pics of the Maroon and Sage combo Pykrim ... or too soon?
