While I wait

I decided to get a Swiss Basic Tool from Tops while I waited for my NWA knife to arrive. I think this will be a great companion to the NWA knife. I saw a review for this blade in tactical knives magazine I believe. I liked the blade design and I tried to find a North American dealer but had no luck. I even tried to contact the company direct, but never got a response. The other day while browsing I see it. Well here is a pic from the site. What do you guys think. I think it will make a nice feild blade, not to thick either only 5/32".

Let me offer a hand. I have vast experience stealing images off the 'net!

Looks like a good field blade, but watch out Todd, as I might hot link your image......

thats the first time I have seen that. I would think it would help with advertising. Thanks pipe.

very nice... those look like great field knives...

i've wanted one of swissbianco's knives for a long time.... :D i don't think i'll got the TOPS route though....:o

todd- love the avatar.... heimo is the man...:D

I held a org. one at blade last year there great. I think the tops would work once the coatings removed and maybe the edge changed

Please post a review when you get it. I am very interested in this knife, the design looks perfect. I'd strip the coating though.

It was a bit more expensive then I expected about $180. I agree as well about preferring the original that's what I was trying to get but no luck. I would definitely prefer it stripped, bead blasted would be awesome.

Cool. Thanks for the link 1whitefoot. I'll keep an eye is Tops ever decides to make the Neck Angel.

Looks like a great user. I bet the thinness makes you forget it's even there!

But it always struck me as odd that there're actually 2 choils? There's a larger pseudo-choil at the back of the real one. Wouldn't it have been better to extend the grind-line to the large one?

I just made an impulsive purchase and ordered an orginal in black from www.fehlschaerfe.de

I'll let you know what it's like after it's arrived and I've had a chance to use it a bit. Not sure about delivery time: I don't speak German and placing the order was tricky enough for me

I'm have to say I'm not a big fan of TOPS although I freely admit I've never owned one. I just look at them and the ergonomics look terrible which is to some extent borne out by reviews. I'm similarly prejudiced against Striders so I guess I may be in a minority there :D

Nice snag untamed. Now I wish I would have waited until I saw this site. The green and black is calling me. I think I'll wait on that one and try out the tops version first to see if I like the feel. Might have to put a few for sale, in order to get it though.....~$440...ouch.

I did not know that the TOPS version would do away with the full flat grind
and put that extra little choil thingy on it

The original isn't quite a full flat grind (more obvious on the green model on the site), although the grind line is straight running parallel to the spine whereas the TOPS grind line is more of a bevel following the blade edge.

What's more interesting is the difference in thickness: the TOPS version at 5/32" which I work out as 3.97mm whereas the original is only 2.6mm which is why the primary grind line is less obvious. I imagine the thinner blade would be more efficient for a lot of tasks.

The edges on the G10 slabs also look more rounded on the original than the TOPS and you get S30V with a Paul Bos heat treat rather than 1095. Lot of dosh for a small blade though.

Er, thanks man but I think you might be referring to another person!

hello,

thanks for the interest!

im still in usa and having problems sending out some new made pics of the tops SBT (SwissBasicTool), work on that.

will post an side by side review of that two knives on my two forums, messerforum.net and multitool.org soon.

if theres anything i can help with please contact me swissbianco at gmx.ch

yes your right, the tops version is thicker and has an diffrent grind and an second choil. but its nice made and looks, feels good. mike fuller have two sample knives for make his version of, with most i saw i agree.

as im currently working on establish an shop in usa there will be more sbt coming soon, custom made, the blade may be an bit thicker but sure my grindlines for an strong tip etc. also my kydexsheath will be diffrent that the tops one.

regarding the NeckAngel, this knife will be updated after this run, also it will be avaliable in an ultralight laminated version, lizensemade by gatco timberline knives, and this will rock big time, the first serialmade ultralight laminated knife.

some others is in the pipeline, i work on some folders, assistent openers and autos, an new lock called BigBoy, with an 12 mm privot etc, wont be weak:D and some other tools like the PPB and SKT, needs time, i only have two hands...

thanks
