Who are the Great Tomahawk Makers?

Check out Devin Price his "warbeast" is amazing and indestructable I've realy enjoyed mine.

Id love to hear the story on how you came to find that awesome Hawk head. Really cool!!..

Don, KR Johnson forges some awesome hawks, and they are nicely priced too. My CS Trailhawk is getting much love lately. They are junk painted crap from CS, but with a bit of elbow grease they really shine, and make a helluva woods tool.. I love a Hawk!

Gransfurs Bruks has a Tomahawk if your rich enough...lol

Ed's probably one of the few to actually try one in combat, so I value that take on it, but you're right, winkler's are UBER expensive man. How do you think one of the American Kami's would stack up? They're pretty pricey too, but looks pretty indestructable.

I contacted KR Johnson because the tomahawks were off his website and I wanted to get one and he told me he wasn't making them because of elbow problems I believe. I have one and if he ever starts back I'm getting another.

I agree with what was said earlier about Cold Steel hawks. They take a beating and you can't argue with their prices. It's pretty easy to customize 'em too.

(( rules violations ))

The greats, guys like Joe Szilaski, Dan Winkler, Ryan Johnson another is Glen Mikloajzyk. Hes overlooked and makes some of the nicest hawks ive ever laid my eyes on. I mean real works of art. You guys should really look at his site. http://www.customtomahawk.com/home.php
More good makers are Larry Gotkin, Stuart Willis, Hb forge, Don, North River customs, Butch and many more..

DAGO RED... that hawk, is badass!!!!!!!! --devin price is now the owner of 2hawks, he was the neighbor kid that always stopped by to "help." when the owner past he left the company to him. must be a hellova good kid to have a great hawk company left to ya! i met devin at the indy 1500 gun and knife show, and he is a respectable, honest, hardworking, guy that makes hawks the same way he was taught from the original owner. anyway i have 4- 2hawks and i got them from 3 different places, all are great quallity. the warhawk and warbeast are badass but alittle over priced. however the "woods type" hawks are very reasonable. ROB.

No matter what my tastes are, I am very much afraid my wallet is more in the Estwing League. :)

The Fort Turner and H&B Forge Hawks are the ones I've been eyeing up. The tactical stuff really doesn't appeal to me.
I think with a small Trapper type hawk and a Mora type knife you would be pretty well set for anything !

Im with ya pit. I like the idea of creating a new haft if it breaks. Cant do that with the one piece. Plus they are no doubt waaaay heavier then a hawk or even an axe. Id rather have an axe. The thing that makes hawks so appealing for me is the packability and weight. If you cant remove the head or make a new handle, it really takes away from the shine of a hawk as a woods tool. For me anyways.

Thats a nice Hawk. Really nice. I really like that guys work. Ive lusted after a custom woods axe from them for a long time. Hes one of the only guys around making axes. (not tomahawks) Ive also been wanting a double bit Gransfors Bruks and a Lee Reeves Hatchet for a long time.

Mistwalker,

If you are going to order a RMJ Loggerhead you had better do it waaaay in advance. My Kestrel took about six months and the Loggerhead I ordered two months ago might be ready by the end of the year.

I have handled two of his American Kami axes. They are very well made. As a weapon I have no doubt that these axes would get the job done. I’m not very confortable whit a polished finish on a blade that is intended to be a weapon. I think the ones he makes now have a better handle set up.

Some of the most unique and modern axes out there. Made the mistake one time by not being too clear on my views on his axes. The maker is a very passionate guy about his work.

The maker is a member here; he might tell us more about them.
