Who Are You?

Best for last? I guess that's what the director said about the final "Friday the 13th" Movie!
Anyway, I'm a 35 yr old slacker that tried college until I dropped out for lack of interest(Okay- they kicked me out for not making grades. The lack of interest part still holds). I work at a small Western College(Some Irony, Huh!) and don't mind the mindless work. I do enjoy the very liberal vacation/time-off benefits.
I've always been fascinated by sharp objects(bear many a scar to prove it!) and aquired an interest in Kukri's from "The Man who would be King" with Caine and Connery. Probably the best film of all time(Take that, 'Titanic' fans!)
Principal interests would include Civil War History(not the English one either!) and the Battle of the Atlantic. I'd like to think of myself as a Cliff Claven on both subjects.
I'm a sometimes knifemaker(not grinding and heat treating- just assembling and finishing) and outdoorsperson. Damn, that liberal college brainwashing is catching up to me again! I hunt and fish. Neither one particularly well. Of course most of you would agree(I hope) that isn't really the point anyway!
My latest passion is the Atlatl. I've had one since spring and am amazed at the gracefulness and power these primitive things are capable of. One day I hope to try some of my unsuccessful hunting skills with one during deer season. I guess the state of California has to recognize them as legitimate first.
There are a few things lacking in my life these would be:
A job that I look forward to every day
A 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbine(the kind that Hemingway tried to eat for lunch in Havana)
A sixpack of Edmund Fitzgerald Porter(unavailable here on the west coast)
A soulmate(Thought I found her once, but United Airlines has a strict no animal policy on International flights!)
A house on forty acres(Central Oregon looks really nice)
A hand built West Greenland style Kayak
A month long ramble through Alaska with a fishing rod and rifle
A Gelbu Special

Sorry for boring you guys,
Always a pleasure,
Sutcliffe

Dan,
"Cheers" television show about the bar in Boston. Cliff, I believe was the know-it-all mailman.

Rob.

While I'm here, might as well bore y'all with the details of my journey...

Grew up in the NE (Central MA), not too fond memories of sharp objects (nearly put a lock-blade through my hand using it improperly to try to cut HARD plastic!). Went to TN in 1988 to Grad School (UT) Man, Knoxville is a pretty town! Moved down here to AL in 1990 to work for what was then a thriving computer company (now just about gone...). I have 5 kids, one on the way, live on about 2 1/3 acres just outside of town. We home-school our 2 oldest (the others aren't old enough yet), and would definitely classify myself and my wife as bordering on ultra-conservative politically. I've been married since 1990 to the mother of my 5 1/2 kids (sometimes I don't know how she puts up with me). We attend a fundamental Bible-believing Baptist church. I'm a software developer for a NASA contractor supporting Space Station and Shuttle missions. Developed a bad case of HIKV about a year ago, now I'm hopeless. I've infected a few folks around here, so at least I have company (3 of my co-workers now own Khuks!). Some of my other interests are: reading, woodworking, Ancient Egyptian history, and handy-man type stuff around the house. Oh well, enough rambling, please excuse the less than perfect grammatical style used here

The only thing better than a sharp knife is... Lots of sharp knives! :)

Forty one (old enough to know better and young enough to do it again)I`ve been a farmer ,roughneck, pipeliner, heavy equipment operater, bartender, short order cook, gas well tester etc. I love to read ,especially history, especially British military history. The more I read about it, the more I`ve come to appreciate how much the British Empire has changed the world for the better.I have no time for political correctness, white liberal guilt, and revisionist history.Cheers,Mark Omnia Audax

How could I forget to mention my hobby , drinking ale . Ale ,as everyone knows ,is drunk cool as opposed to ice cold, because it tastes good. Therefore, one doesn`t need to chill it so much that the frost freezes your taste buds and prevents you from asking the obvious question,"How do they get those famous Clydesdales to urinate into those little bottles?" Cheers,Mark Omnia Audax

I'm a 40 year old Englishman; spent 7 years at university researching Greece in the 6th/5th centuries BC; after that, 2 years at law school, 7 years in practice, specialising in death & taxes; went straight in 1996, when I couldn't stick the shame and pain of being a lawyer any more, and realised I could just about make a living by writing. I've published 20 or more novels since '84.

The great loves of my life used to be target shooting and hunting (but see above, under 'English'...) so now I make and collect sharp things and daydream about emigrating to the USA instead. Chances of translating daydream into reality are fairly slight, since my wife won't even consider emigrating, and after 13 years of marriage I've learned not to argue...

C'mon man, we need more people like you in this country already, or we may lose here too...

When she's ready, Tom, you'll find plenty of sponsors here. I should tell you that I have a brother in Nantwich who will never return here to live, so your wife may be right. Another brother lives in Canada, one is buried in Jordan and the last finally moved to the USA from Germany; I'm starting to feel crowded already.

I'm 44, half bald and several stone overweight. I stutter, forget names, have horrible breath and a grumpy disposition that only improves under the benign influence of God's gift to Skye, the incomparable Talisker. For 25 years I've served as a regular and Reserve Coast Guardsman, somewhere along the line I became one of the fossils that as young men we used to think belonged in museums.

My hands are like leather but my back is shot so I seldom forge anything anymore. I shut down my carpentry business to work full time with an innovative company that will change the Transportation industry for the better (http://www.backhaul.net). Contact me to buy shares. . .

My son is at college, so that went well. My wife is a strong, brave woman of unimpeachable character, if poor judgement. Bless her, she has had the job of putting up with me for 21 years. She is proof that goodness exists.

I live in Northwest Georgia, right in the corner. This is lovely country and a good place to stay, so it is home. Our wee house is paid for, the dogs, cats, bird and hedgehog all seem content and the neighbors have long since given up trying to reform me. Therefore, life is good.

I love owning tools and useless things like a sailboat and old cars. Knives are everywhere in our home, in my pickup, in my pocket. I have yet to convince Uncle Bill to appoint me as "Field Tester for all Khukeries" so everyone please vote for me if the position is ever nominated. Its my best hope of getting my greasy paws on another one, at least for now. I keep looking up in hopes that the UPS jet will drop one on its way to the East Coast. . .

I respect talent, effort and honesty. I don't hesitate to express emotion or forgive a slight. In all, a pretty ordinary fellow and glad to be among decent people.

Stephen

Micah 6:8. Well worth the attempt!

Hmmm.....my turn.

I am 40 years old, clinical pharmacist by profession, single fellow who has many interests. Chances are if you ask me about a particular subject, I can talk intelligently on it. As to being single, I have yet to meet the lady who can turn my head, causing me to say, "this is someone with common sense worth knowing".

Why knives as one of many hobbies? Very useful tool, asthetically pleasing, and a way to demonstrate my responsibility and maturity to an immature governing system intent on removing any individual liberties and responsibilities I enjoy.

Hi all!
Just read through the whole post. What a fine and eclectic group of men and women!

Martino's Rough Riders? The 1st (Irregular) Nepalese Mounted Light Infantry? How about *The Navy of Nepal*? How about I shut up and go away?

I was born December 20, 1966, approximately 165-175 LB (varies depending on physical activity and food consumption) and 5’ 11”. I am not married (since nobody wants me).

My main interests: center fire and air rifle shooting (competition and fun), reloading, edged tools, ballistics, food, gadgets, and traditional archery. I share ownership in a 165 acre lot which contains a mix of hardwoods, softwoods, and swamp which needs requires a bit of maintenance. Also, according to the signs hunting should be pretty good but I have not gotten anything.

I have a Ma. A. Sc. in Chemical Engineering, and currently designing air pollution control systems. I am currently living in London, Ontario. I still bicycle to work.

I guess I am one of the young ones in the group. I am 23 and a recent college grad. I thought that college would teach me all I needed to know and that when I graduated I would have the answers to everything. Well here I am now and I must admit that I am more confused now than when I started. It's okay though, because I feel as if I can and will do anything that I want to. Also, reading all your posts showed me that it's okay if I don't know where I'm going, as I'll get there eventually, and that I should enjoy the trip. I've always liked knives, which I never understood because my parents aren't very fond of them. I recently discovered that it's in my blood though, as my great grandfather also shared my passion for sharp objects. I reside somewhere on the moderate/liberal end of the political spectrum. I know that may not be a popular position, but you guys try being a young minority male in Los Angeles and see if it doesn't convert you a little bit.
