Don't worry Jaeger, no offense taken. You and I are both entitled to our opinions, whatever they may be. Actually I think that you and I are alike in many ways, fiercely independent and proud of our individualism. And as much as I may or may not disagree with you or anyone else (which I'm not saying I do), it's all well and good because as I said I am a Constitutionalist like you and strongly believe in freedom of expression.

Just a note to let people know that I have changed my user name from "Kozak" to "Apothecary" as I wish to be identified more closely with my profession.

I had an interesting life and huge fun! Traveled everywhere with my son competing with a Martial Arts Karate team. I'll be 48 and my son 21. I was divorced twice but had a blast anyhow with both wives. Have quite a collection of firearms which I enjoy and a very awesome H.I. collection and other various knives. Also been to Central America and Africa and touched the Sahara Desert. I am from CT. USA and have a piece of land up state NY. Worked 21 yrs with the State of Ct. and want to retire ASAP so I can be free. Have sites on Nepal and also have friends in Pakistan to visit. (You can have 4 wives there and you would own them for as long as you want-Yahoo!! Like uncle Bill say's, it's not easy to cram a whole life in a brief summary.

"I like Harry the Apothecary."

How about ApothecHarry..?

Harry,

"I have yet to meet the lady who can turn my head, causing me to say, "this is someone with common sense worth knowing".

Thanks for the line I will try it on my parents as they try to set me up with many single women they know. It beats:

"Nobody wants me"

I only recently found this forum and I thought this would be a good place for my first post. I am a 22 yr old college junior majoring in Russian language and living in Huntsville Al. I got my first HI khukuri when I was about 14 or so and bought several others later. Got distracted by other interests, and hadn't even really thought about Khuks again for a couple of years...until one day I was looking around on the web and thought 'I wonder if HI has a website' and, well, here I am. (The prodigal customer?) My other interests include music, firearms, ice hockey and about a dozen other totally unrelated things. I was a martial artist somewhere in there, too; Russian Sambo, (submission grappling) for about two years including competing. Have always loved big, sharp things and probably always will; and khukuris are definately one of my favorites.
I'm not married, Christian, and staunchly individualistic. I tend to be conservative though I don't like to label myself and don't really like Republicans any more than Democrats.
I'll just end by saying greetings to Uncle Bill and everybody on the forum and I hope my next post will envolve a purchase, I haven't gotten a new khukuri in the mail in a long while!

One thing I have noticed is that about 90% of the people who described themselves
1.Like Guns
2.Are interested in/have taken martial arts

there is probably some interesting psychology (not in a bad way) here seeing that more than most....just about everyone has 3 interests (khuks, guns, martial arts) in common but hey, I guess it's part of the glue that holds this great forum together

:
I am like my Bro Bill and don't know how to collapse the years into something short so we will see how long this gets.

I am 60 years of age, born in Afton Oklahoma, a small town that's still small. Left there when I was 6 months old and traveled Turtle Island (The US of A.) with my parents. I was in 24 states by the time I was 13 and lived in most of them. My dad was an outlaw and we stayed one step ahead except for minor skirishes. I tried to kill him barehanded when I was 15, almost 16 and damn near did and would have if it hadn't of been for my mom. He was one that surely had it coming, but I am glad I don't have to live with that. Never did make peace with him and I am not sorry for that.

Got married the 1st time when I was 16, had to back in those days you know. After several tries finally grew up enough to deserve a good woman and I married her and it's been a happy going on 14 years the way it should be. More on that later.
Together we have 6 bio kids, several adopted into our family the ndn way and a total of 19 grandkids with 12 of them being bio g'kids not that there's any difference between
them.
I was a big ol' dumb kid that knew it all and yet still managed to survive. I love knives of all kinds, but favor the exotics like Khukuris and the Keris. I also love guns and what little formal, if you can call it that, martial arts I had was taught by a 9th grade coach and was Judo, other than that I learned it on the street and had the rep of a bad a** and a knife fighter. I wasn't a bad a** ,never was, never will be And dayumed sure don't want to be, but remember Old Age and Treachery Always overcomes Youth and Skill.

I finally got a bit of sense and decided if I didn't want to spend my life on a farm as a big ol' dumb kid that I needed a trade. And looking back on things have decided it wouldn't have been so bad except I probably wouldn't have made it as a farmer. They have to work to dayumed hard!! I got my 1st real job in a machine shop that had an Automatic Screw Machine and found that I liked it. I became a 1st class ASM Mechanic and not just an operator. Being an ASM mechanic means that you can do it all from running the machine to taking it apart, fixing it, and putting it back together better than new. I was one of the few in the states that could do that with as many machines as I could. Dayumed proud of that too!!!

I done my stint in So.Cal. like all good Okies do. Then went to Oregon, another piece of God's country, Of Course ALL of Turtle Island is God's country, for a short stint until the bottom dropped out of the economy in 1980 then tucked my tail between my legs and came home.
Was given 5 years to live in 1984 and copped a Horrible Attitude. Went Totally Out of Character!!!! Proved to myself and the doc's that everyone can be wrong. In the interim I got divorced, married and then decided the B&$#* didn't deserve anything I had if I did die, got divorced again and met Barb the Absolute Best & Most Beautiful Woman in The Whole World For Me!!!!

During the middle part of our married life I hurt myself badly at work and then contracted Still's Disease which is the Systemic Adult Onset of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis which means it affects my whole body and not just the joints.
Got early retirement on 97% Disability
Pretty much learned to live with it by now.

I grew up in the transistion of this Great Nation and remember outhouses, Sear's Catologs, no phones, no TV, taking a bath on Saturday night in the 1st bath water,
And when a man's handshake was all it took to seal a contract. And wonderfully glad I found this place where the last is still so!!!

I am proud as hell about being Cherokee and Osage Indin and perhaps some Creek as well.
I am also very proud of my German, Scots, Irish heritage as well!

I follow the Traditional ways of my people and am not Christian.
I was given the right to the Sweatlodge for my family and friends a bit over seven years ago and am a recognized Spiritual leader among the ndn people around here and other places I have visited.
I finally got my Southern Straight Dance Regalia together this year and started dancing in the Arena. I am still a Gourd Dancer as well and have been at that for about 7-8 years.
That's about it folk's. Thousands of stories in between, some sad, some happy and Some downright Funny ones on Myself!!!

AND I am Not Done Yet!!!!

I knew this thread was going to make for some interesting reading. And we haven't even heard from Bill yet!

Thanks for the post, Yvsa. I don't see how you packed all that into 60 years. That's about enough living for 3 or 4 normal people's lives.

I DO NOT CHOOSE TO BE A COMMON MAN

"It is my right to be uncommon...if I can; I seek opportunity...not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stole calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud, and unafraid; to think and act for myself; enjoy the benefits of my creations and to face the world boldly and say,
This I have done, and this is what it means to be an American."
