Maybe Im just getting up there in years but when I meet people from here on BF at the shows I cant seem to remember their real names. They introduce themselves but it doesnt register. I think its because they dont use their real names on the forums. example: L6 BEknives Royal7 Gouge Indian George Striper28 Blinker Silent on and on. I cant understand why if they wish to be known in the makers arena they dont use their real names. What started the "Identity game" on the forums? Wouldnt they "get known" better if they introduce themselves from the start to the masses here? For the makers that are part or full time I think it is hurting their business.

I agree Bruce. In fact, I have a hard time relating to people with screen names.

I've talked to some makers who won't respond to anyone using anything but their real name. They said, if it's not important enough to use their real name, it's not important enough to answer. Or words to that effect.

I think much of it started with the paranoia of ID theft. I don't think that's a valid excuse anymore. :)

Bruce,

I agree with what Mike said. Unless I know who is behind the nick, I tend to not answer.

It's such a waste for a knifemaker to be using the forums, especially this one, and not use his own name. I'm not a knife customer but I have looked in all the Knives annuals & magazines and can't find a whole bunch of guys that post here.

I use the nick Kit Carson, btw :)

Excellent thread Bruce!!
Fact is I never thought about this one bit!
I have the business sense of a goat.
Now that you bring this up I would like to start using my real name.
How do I go about changing from my nick to my real name here at BFC?

Bruce,
I'm Eager... Kevin Eager... of Kennewick... I should meet you someday since you're just down in Wally World.

Michael, you have to ask Spark in the Service and Support forum, down at the bottom of this forum list.
There is a sticky there with instructions.:)

Hi Bruce,

My name is Dean Taylor. I live out here on the east coast of Canada...right next to Maine.

Take Care
Dean

Definitely a good thread, least, in my opinion. Kevin might get kind of annoyed at you though because I suspect he's now gonna get a rash of people askign to have their names changed on here. :)

Joel Sprague(and the name here will be fixed ;) )

Seriously, Tom, what does that nick mean? Who are you, really? :)

Guys, name association does mean alot. Think about what I said about the Knives annuals and magazines. No nicks in there. Customers, on the other hand can use all the nicks they want, long as they sign their checks with the real name

Happy New Year to all, btw.

I do not sell knives, just make them for friends and myself, if I was selling you are correct it would be wise to use either your, or your business name...I think they call that name identification. ;)

The only reason I have a screen name is I thought it was a rule or something! It means nothing, in fact it is my dogs name! Once you are "known" by your screen name it seems it may be hard to change?

Bruz,
It isn't a rule or anything. If you make them for friends and yourself, you are a maker. No time like the present to start putting your name out.

I prefer to use my real name, and also do on some of the other forums. You want to sell knives, you gotta get your NAME out there,I agree. Some of the nicknames on the Forum do rather fit the person, I beleive. A most excellent post, by the way. My handle on a couple of other forums is Old Hickory.

Well, I guess mine's obvious. Screen names are kind of fun once in awhile. I was goin to be redneck but some bastard already took it at the time even though I've never seen him post. Now that I'm making/selling knives I'm glad I use my own name.

I don't think its too big of a deal as long as you sign with your real name once in awhile. If everybody starts changing its going to be confusing! I suppose I'll figure it out though :)
