Who are You?

I belong to and own a few forums and I mostly used the nick "FO_D" but since I plan to be a fulltime maker in the next year or 2, I decided it would be best to use my real name here. Its nice to meet people you've conversed with on these forums, I have met and climbed with people from all over the world through one site.
BTW I think I saw someone from this forum at the Badger knife show back in March but I didnt introduce myself, he had mondo or somthing similar to that on what looked like a t-shirt with the blade forums logo, I'm not sure if that was a "nick" or maybe i was just reading it wrong. anyway hello from Minnesota.

That's why I resurrected this thread, Les. All the serious knifemakers I have ever met, both online and in person all go by their real names. If you are serious, you'll probably go to a show. If you go to a show, you'll probably meet a fellow forumite. It makes for a lot less awkwardness, and there is a lot of "brand-name recognition" built right in, is you are displaying as a vendor at these shows, too.

Secondly, we are all gentlefolk here. We kid around, for sure, but treat each other with a great amount of dignity and respect. Its hard to relate to someone with a handle. Its hard to give someone a lead to where they can buy something or to a fellow knifemaker in their area, or perhaps a hammer-in if they don't put in their profile where they live, or put in stuff like "Planet 10" or something to that effect.

Bruce started this thread a few months ago, but it really should be a moderator sticky to the effect that if you wish to post in this forum, then perhaps a full name and no nicks is the best way to get results.

I tried it J and it didn't work for me, I'm back to my old L6 self. But then I'm wierd like that. I like the nick I guess. It just seemed like folks didn't respond to my posts the same with my real name.

Michael that's an interesting idea, and I think it has some merit. You've been around for a long time and folks have gotten used to you with the nick. It's almost like meeting someone new when they spring their real name on you. :D And meeting someone new in the actual world often leads to some hesitancy until folks get acquainted. I'm sure my Psych 101 professor would have a name for this. I'll take you anyway you are and I reckon the rest of us will too. I kinda like L6 - didn't even know what it was when I joined this forum.

I made the switch, guys....

Bruce - thanks for the inspiration.

Kit - you've been a wonderful help as well in helping me understand my "identity" as a knifemaker.

Change is good.....so refreshing to see my name in bright orange letters.....:D
