Who carries for self-defense?

I always have a knife on me for self defense. But just recently I purchased a Surefire Z2 combat light. I also got a neat little attachment that fits on the end of the flashlight that looks like a cookie cutter. I used to walk through dark parking lights with my hand near my knife, but now i just walk with my surefire in my hand. Nothing illegal about carrying a flashlight. And that steel cookie cutter attachment would really give someone a major headache.

Good thinking, but ... some of these creeps don't care about your money, they figure they'll get your money anyway, after they cut you up. And I can't run. Can't even walk fast. And I hope I won't have to stick around to explain to the police who did what first.

Knives are not great defensive weapons. But they can shut up the losers when it's over. :grumpy:

It is against the law to carry a knife in GA for self defense. The law is an ass. I use mine only to open Slim Jims, not slim Jim.;)

in folder I carry my vaquero grande and spyderco military every day and if im carring fixed its a cold steel recon scout....SEMPER FI:grumpy:

What an interesting display of responses. It really shows me that when on the forum, I'm in touch with an array of intelligent people. All of you seem to be very level-headed and display a mature attitude toward this topic. I have much to learn. Thankyou everyone. In regards to this topic, I once heard a great man I know say, "If you have to defend yourself, do it. Remember, it's better to be judged by 12, than to be carried by 6."

I carry mostly for utility but defense is always a thought. I usually carry my BM 940 or Spyderco CF Police. I'm currently looking for a fixed blade for EDC. Thinking of a BM outlander D2. Just ordered a Swamp Rat Camp Tramp but something tells me I may get arrested if I carry that one!

The knife I'm buying will be used as self defense, possibly an SOG seal 2000. Along with my Surefire G2 w/ P61 bulb for defense. A knife can be just as deadly as a handgun in the right hands.

For some reason, I always end up in some dark parking lot late at night. Lately, I've been carrying a Spyderco Endura Stainless Steel Plain edge. It has a slim profile that keeps it hidden when out about the sheeple, but still available to me whenever I need it. Plus, the stainless steel handle makes a great weapon by itself. Sometimes my stainless plain delica replaces the Endura just to switch things up a bit. I know there a number of laws about knife carry for defense. Still, you just never know if that guy sneaking behind you will be just rob you or treat you like a Thanksgiving turkey. Better to be judeged by 12 that carried by 6.

I have carried a knife for self-defense since I was 16 and I was "jumped" by some skin-heads after work one night. I ended up getting a broken nose and black eye. Most of these guys were in their twenties and I remember my friends mom saying "Your lucky those guys did not kill you", that really stuck out to me because they probally very easily could have at that time.

I only carry for utility NEVER for self defense. Of course my utility knives are a Spydie Police, SOG X-ray Vision, and a Boker Brend.:D ;)

Spyderco Military and a SAK! :D

If someone terrorizes me to the point where I feel I have to pull a knife to defend myself............

......Im going to shoot them!!!!

In spite of that point, I never leave home without a buck odessy Iv had for some three years. Its a work knife (construction)and its about a half inch shorter than its suppossed to be where I broke the tip off and reformed it, but, its the one I have with me, and over the years Ive really got good at putting an edge on it, it would fillet an arm like so much jello.

I carries glock 19,two emerson commander wave for self defense and a emerson raven for utility. go rent the movie HUNTED, you can learn alot about knife fighting or defense from it.

woaw...learn knife fighting from a movie...have read a lot on the forum but this one is one of the great! :D
I hope it was a joke? THE HUNTED????? hahahahahahahha have been watching it with some friends (most CQB instructors) and when we saw the drill where Tommy Lee Jones made this One two three four five six drill and showed how to cut on some parts of the body we all almost fall laughing from our chair!
Ok...a thing is that they used some great knifes combat instructors to assist on this movie, but they all said most of this knifes sequences weren't realistics!
Beside...Do you know many Knives instructors going in the wood after a dangerous guy without a knife? So NO I don't think there is something REALISTIC to learn about THE HUNTED...

I do not carry any knives for self defense, which many of you may think is odd as I post on bladeforums, but thankfully I live in a peaceful area and being picked up by the cops with an 'offensive weapon' will land me in a great deal of trouble.

I love to collect good knives just as a hobby.:)
