Who does *not* watch t.v. ?

I watch tv when I'm doing a project, most of the time I find myself bored while working if I don't have something to glance at while thinking.

Im pleasantly surprised that there are so many NON TV folks here.It makes me feel a lil less wierd:D

I dont know anyone personally that doesnt watch TV ( other than my wife )

I've spent a fair number of years completely without TV when living outdoors. Watched it some as a kid in the evenings, but not as much as many of my peers. Didn't have it at all until I was about 10, I think.

We watch it some now - only in the evenings, sometimes not at all. No kids, so don't have that pressure to contend with. There's nothing on (that I'm aware of) that I would really be drawn into... the way some people are drawn into reality shows, for example.

I like to watch the local news and weather a few times a week. Otherwise, I'm just looking at pretty pictures for a while (CSI Miami and such) or silly stuff (Family Guy). Not really looking for anything serious. Just a little candy, with some information around the edges.

Every once in a long while, I'll hook into something on the History Channel, or something like that. Could definitely do without it entirely, but it doesn't seem to present a problem, so NBD.

I have a television, but only use it to watch DVD's as I have no cable television service. Can't say as I miss it, except during football season. :(

Internet access is another story, and that I cannot live without. I pay approximately 98% of my bills online and manage my credit cards and bank accounts that way as well.

I have a TV and satellite which is almost always on when I am home. I don't actually "watch" it much though. I just need background noise of some sort or I start to get a little crazy. I do use it to play games quite a bit.

No cable except for internet. Have a TV in order to watch DVD's, but other than that TV is the devil. My wife and I read a lot, spend time with our kids, listen to AM radio, and pursue hobbies. We have existed without TV programs for 3 years now. It's good to know that others have turned off the nonsense as well.

Some one here at work told me he read that a poll was done and a large percentage of people claimed they would choose internet over sex.

:eek:WTF !!..They obviously arent doing it right ! ( sex that is )

I wish that I could disengage from the TV. All I do is come home from work and sit in front of the stupid box. I keep trying but when I get home I just want to veg out.

The fact that our cable bill is over 100 bucks a month may have something to do with it too.

Although, it is cheap entertainment. If you rent a couple of movies a week thats 50 bucks a month right there.

My son would not be best pleased either.

I turned my cable off about a month ago because it had gotten too expensive for me to justify having it. I haven't missed it. But I rarely turned my set on anyway except to watch a dvd. I do watch some tv when I am at my girlfriend's house but she is seriously considering turning off her cable, also, because of the cost. We can both afford the cable, but television just doesn't seem to be worth paying over a hundred dollars a month. We might go with satellite in the future. But right now I don't really miss having television.

SHANN, GO FOR IT ! You would doing yourself, your son, and your bank account a favor.

You could use some of that veggin time doing things with your son too.

I come home from work and veg out w/a book as does my wife, when i get tired of that im up makin a knife (one of my hobbies) or doing something around the house or w/the wife.

No TV watching for me. Bought one for the first time in my life, a 42" LCD, last year at 36yrs old. I do buy and watch a lot of movies, so there's an upconverting DVD player and a Playstation 2 hooked up to it.
Got a powered HD antenna for local channels that's been used for a couple of football games, and that's it.
My old TV was a hand-me-down 27" that my parents had already relegated to their basement when I was a kid. Maybe I'll get 25 years out of this one, too!

Maybe I'll get 25 years out of this one, too!

If you go on my experiences, you wont!

I was an 'early acquirer' of a LCD tv back in 2004. It had a 3 year guarantee which it out-lived by 6 months. It is back in the cardboard box it came in while I try to find out if and how much it will cost to be fixed.

Meanwhile what little viewing I do is on a 20year old Philips CRT tv which doesn't have the connections needed for the dvd & HDD recorder. :grumpy:

I typically read 4 books a week when I do not have 60 hour plus work weeks. (Been way too many of those this year).

I still do not know who shot JR etc, etc, etc. Last TV series I watched was M.A.S.H. have not watched a network show since. I have tried once or twice, just have not found anything that is funny, or that entertaining. As far as news na, it is either too filtered or too focused on gossip or the life of a celebrity. Which is not news to me.

Been watching some Bastidville Falcons games this year and scarfed up a lot of the Olympics, other than that my TV stays off.

I have a pretty extensive music collection and prefer music to TV during my down time.

I don't watch TV. Not being exposed to all that advertising and shows sure does make a difference in the clarity of my thoughts.
