Who else buys doubles of their favorite knives?

bought my second starmate 6 months after i got the first one. just in case i broke or lost the first one. hasn't happened yet, over 10 years, carried it every day for at least 10 years. all i ever had to do was sharpen it.

If I like a knife I will buy two.

If I really like a knife I'll buy three.

If I really really like a knife I'll buy 4.

I'll take it a step further. I for one think that at some point knives are going to be very hard to get for one reason or another, either economically, politically, etc. I also have children (boys) that I want to have and enjoy knives. I buy 2 of everything minimum and the stuff I like I keep and usually buy a total of either 4 or 5. So I've got 4 o 5 each of at least 5 different make and models. I'm not the only person that does this, I've got several buddies here locally that are not the site but do the same thing with knives, guns, flash lights, etc.

Only ones I've bought doubles of are a pair of Opinel No. 7s & 8s. I use them as my food knives (when going out to eat). I got multiple because I don't normally carry them. I just keep them in accessible places for when I might be eating away from home (car, office, backpack, picnic cooler).

yah, just bought my first duplicate, finally got my hands on another Kershaw 2420, carried my first for about 12 years, wanted a factory new example, found one close to new on the 'bay (only some scuffs on the frame). Other than that, the only other duplicates I forsee in my future are a BM581, and BM710-2. Perhaps a g10 tyrade to go with the Ti version as well.

I've bought doubles of multiple knives for various reasons. Lately it is has been multiples of a knife so that I have one to keep stock, and then pull the scales off of others and craft new scales in rosewood or bubinga. I've also got doubles in my Kershaws where I'll pick up a NIB to save and keep nice and then carry a blemish knife from their factory sale or Kershawguy that I don't mind completely trashing. I tend to carry a Skyline though lately just because they are cheap and light. I've got a half dozen of them so not concerned about losing them. My first Kershaw actually came after I lost a CRKT. I was taking photos of starfish in tidepools at the Oregon coast. I slipped and fell and reached down to brace myself and protect the camera. I sliced my hand all up on the sharp volcanic rock and lost my EDC M16. I ran in to town and while sopping up blood from my hand with a paper towel picked up a Kershaw in sporting goods. Had to hide my hand a bit because I was afraid what they'd say about a guy with a bloody hand wanting to buy a knife :)

I have backups of my most used, which get rotated into my EDC. I have 2 FGD2 Para's & 2 440V SE Millies. There are no safe queens in my house.

I have got three Kershaw Boa, two BM 805, two identical Endura ZDP-189 saber grind, two identical Kershaw Spec Bump. Got three BM Griptilian, but they are not exactly identical, so I guess that would not count.

P.S. And I do not believe in having any special reason for wanting or having any knife, even double or triple. ;)

P.P.S. I have got FFG Endura ZDP and now contemplating buying the second one. But it will be probably with VG-10 blade, so it will not count either... :D

Got 2 Enduras and 2 Delicas (different colors). Got two Para 2s (a 1 and a 2). Got about 20 Moras, many variations on the models, but only one model is an actual identical double. I just got my first 7nn series and LOVE IT. I'll be picking up all of the model in that series...the 711 series or whatever.

I have 3 SAK Tinkers.

I have 2 ESEE 3s and 2 ESEE 4s but again, different ones. Got two Izulas, the original and the Izula-2.

I didn't think I would but I have. These are some exact doubles. I'm not including those of the same type but with different handle materials.

2 GEC #33 Conductors with American Elk scales, should be getting 2 Burnt Stag ones today.

Nice collection 2Dead. Glad to see you've got a user in that group. I'm thankful for the replies in this thread because now I know I'm not alone, even though I'm still slightly obsessed with sharp pointy objects. Right now I have about 75 knives in my collection (that aren't crap) and I think that's a lot. When I see some of the other members collections here, mine pales in comparison, but it probably won't forever! I've thought about getting doubles of more of my knives but they're of the ones that were pretty difficult to come by in the first place, so I think I'll just stick with the few I have at the moment.
