Who else doesn't like the RC-3 sheath?

the retention on the sheath isnt good enough. and having a wrapped cord belt loop is pretty flimsy and ghetto for such an expensive knife.

Looks like knifeworks screwed the pooch on that one. That's a ESEE-4 sheath pictured with a 3. The photochopped the pics and put the wrong sheath up.

the product description even has it as a kydex sheath. I almost ordered it just to have another sheath option for my rc3s.

I like the sheath, but I think it has way too much going on for it (the MOLLE version). I bought the MOLLE backed sheath version because I like how you can loop it to your belt like a traditional sheath. I wish there was just a loop attachment and not all the extra MOLLE stuff -just a simple loop -kind of like the new RC-6 attachment.

The plastic part of the sheath with the grommets is fine by me -very sleek and simple.

Well, the retention is a matter of opinion. I make sheaths for alot of folks and my lightest retention is too heavy for some and tightest sheath too loose. Can't make everyone happy.

Now the paracord being "ghetto" and "flimsy". Na, I disagree. The paracord is one of the strongest methods of belt carry available. 550 load pounds of force will break the sheath alot faster than the cord. It's "inexpensive" not cheap.

If your not happy with it, use one of the other two options that come with this "expensive" knife.

yeah thats kind of what i thought too. the para cord isn't going to break. besides i like the boot belt clip alot and the sheath's retention is just fine, it has yet to come out on its own and walk around. mine actually fits very well it was pretty tight when i got it and has loosend up very little with pretty much daily carry and use. i can tell you one thing for sure, you can cut a lot of hay bale ties with that little sucker without taking the edge off at all. most knives need to be resharpend alot sooner.

take it easy

hm.. i have a rc-5 and a kydex sheath its amazing, is yours a plastic sheath??? i hate my plastic sheath for my izula...need to upgrade to kydex...

like i said i had to wrap the cord every which way and sew the cords together because the cord clamp would become loose. that is obviously a flaw... having to change the sheath to make it work

Too true, and it is hard to communicate that with a customer. How do you communicate or figure out how much retention they want? I made a sheath the other day, and my brother couldn't get it out of the sheath. I thought it was a bit juicy, but not too bad....

I mean, you could use a foot pounds of force rating... I have actually considering buying a scale like they have in archery shops to meaure the 'draw' of the bow....

I am with you on this... In fact, I hardly use any hard attachments... My customers want them, and I build for them, but I use paracord almost exclusively... From a Figure 8 (MercHarness) to a Static Line (Tactical Tether), or like another plastic bender around these parts.... just a loop of paracord through a couple holes held in place with a cord-lock.

seems there is lots of variation in the sheath making process for esee knives regardless of material used. nearly every model has had folks say the sheath is too tight, too loose or just right....

Not the knives, it's the person and their preferrence :D

well i have four esee knives and the three that came with sheaths(the 6 came in the kit) the sheaths all fit very differently.....
the sheath is, of course, the least of the knife, for me anyways, just noticing a common theme here

Here's a pic of a RC-3 sheath I did with firesteel loop. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Matt
