Who else doesn't like the RC-3 sheath?

i really like the tight fit, i have lost a knife due to a loose fitting sheath before and now i can appreciate a nice tight fitting sheath

I've had my 3MIL for a while now and I have no complaints. It was a little "fiddly" missing the little ledges in the throat at first but I got used to it pretty quick. I carry mine on my right side most of the time and draw and re-sheath in a reverse grip. I haven't had any issues with it since the second day. It has solid retention but it's definitely not what I would consider too tight at this point. I like the sheath of the 3 much better than the sheath of the Izula but I almost always carry my Izula tip up.

The retention for the RC-3 sheath is a little tight for me but no big deal and I am sure it will break in with use. A couple of jimping grooves where you place your thumb would have made a big difference.

I personally like the sheaths on the RC-3 just for the ease of carrying it so many different ways. When carrying it in town I wear it horizontal strong side underneath a jacket in the cooler months, and vertical between the waistband and belt underneath a t-shirt in the warmer months, both methods using paracord. In the woods, I carry it with either the molle back sheath, or a decent leather sheath I made for it myself. I like the different options to suit my mood.

As far as retention goes, the coyote brown sheath that came with mine was super tight, but loosened up to just what I like it at. I also bought another sheath in foliage green, and that one came perfect and has stayed perfect for my preferences.

As far as my favorite sheath material goes, I prefer leather. I don't love the idea of plastic/kydex rubbing on my edges, but it's more preference than anything, really.

I have a 3-MIL/RC-6 and I cant say that I LOVE either of the plastic sheaths for them. I'm a huge fan of my buddies RC-4 kydex sheath and wish the 3/6 came with kydex tho. Not to worry. The plastic ones keep my blades out of the elements and from cutting anything I dont want it to so it does the job but I would PREFER! kydex. But there is always something else you can get if you dont like it and thats what I love about RAT/ESEE blades! Im venturing into making my own so we will see how that goes. Pics to follow?

I'm about to order a 3 myself. Have any of you fellas tried to blow the opening of the sheath with a hot hair dryer or heat gun to loosen it up some, fitting the knife when the plastic gets soft?
Just a thought.

The only problem to me is the little ledges where the angle of the throat meets the slot for the blade. The sharp tip of the knife will slide down the sides but then get hung on those ledges. I've thought of using the tip of the knife to whittle them down to make them angled but I'm not sure how much that might weaken the sheath, or maybe cause the knife to rattle in the sheath if not done just right. I'm still studying it, but haven't really had any issues with it lately.

While I don't think my stock RC3 sheath looks very fancy, it works great for me. I definitely prefer it on the MOLLE back due to the extra securing methods, and the low ride, easy attachment to my belt. Maybe I got lucky, but the plastic sheath provides a smooth draw (with thumb pressure) and smooth resheath. Blade retention even without the MOLLE back's extra retaining devices is fine.
