Who else EDCs a fixedblade?

I carry a small fixed blade in a pocket (much easier to do in colder months) or on a belt. Large fixed blades are carried on a belt, weak-side (b/c a pistol strong-side). I do small blades in town, but large blades (often along with a small) in the woods or on one of the properties.

Here's today's selection: BlackJack M-125

Here's a good look at the patina (forced, several layers):

I have the Featherweight with me again today (didn't get out to the woods, though, so I had to improvise on the run):

I'm curious; how do most of you carry the knives? Inside your pocket? On your belt?

Are you carrying in an urban environment?

It depends on the knife, what I am doing, where I am going, and the mood I am in that day. When urban it is mostly IWB or in a pocket sheath. Sometime OWB. I carry a ccw so I am use to carrying concealed. Out of town it is always open carry.

I've been carrying fixed blades for a month or so now just for something different. I was carrying an ESEE JG3 but I picked up a TOPS BOB this past weekend for a significant discount and I've carried it all week. I really like it so far. Going to replace the included firestarter with a regular ferro rod.

I Googled it. That is a sweet looking piece.

I carry on my belt for crossdraw. My shirts are always out winter and summer unless I'm dressed for church, so belt carry is concealed and no problem anywhere, city or country. The two I carry most often are a Dozier Arkansas Traveler or a BRKT Northstar EDC. Dozier's horizontal kydex sheath is outstanding for ease of use and comfortable carry. The Northstar is probably my fav though. 3+ inches of 3V steel in a slim package that's very easy to use, even fairly hard.

Yeah thanks man, I think I'm really going to like it. The full name is "Fieldcraft by Brothers of Bushcraft" but that's a mouthful.

Seems pretty bombproof from the little bit I've got to use it. I did quite a bit of research before I bought it because TOPS seems to have a pretty deserved reputation for "flamboyant" designs and product names, although in my amateur opinion the two TOPS knives I own (the other is the Pathfinder School model) are both very well made and of a great quality. I stay away from their more radical knives. I like knives that are pretty basic in looks and function.

I plan on taking this newest one out for a multi-day "trial" as soon as I can get away from work and family obligations. The sheath is nice as far as kydex goes, but I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it or switch to leather. I'm not one of these guys that think "bushcraft" knives absolutely must have a leather sheath, I just go with whatever suits my fancy. I usually prefer leather just for the looks and artistic factor. Either type seems to function good enough for me.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on the knife so far.

Yeah, I don't think anyone calls it anything but the BOB. And it does seem like a solid knife, one of a few they've only just started making in the past year or two.

I don't have one, but from reviews I've seen it misses the mark in a number of places (I'm really expected to use the butt of the knife as a fire striker?) and in general it seems like they're still a bunch of kids playing zombie survivalist. I have their MSK, which they couldn't even get right with red liners under green G10 manufactured too big to fit the kydex sheath they ship it with.

But I digress—the BOB may be a great knife and the perfect one for you. I'm still looking for a good four- or five-inch custom, but in the meantime I'll stick with my Izula and other three-inch neckers for now and go to my ESEE 6 when I need something of substance.

I just sold my BOB (though I found it to be a great knife), along with almost all of my production fixed blades....this is my current favorite custom that I've been EDC-ing lately....freaking love this - dyed Black Ash burl, tapered tang CPM-154, the pink pinstripe over natural micarta liners sets the whole piece off - Love it!!

Oh, & since we're also talking about how we carry our fixed EDCs...I'm a standard open carry guy on my right hand side from belt or pocket if the sheath has a clip.

I tried a damascus ESEE Izula. Its alright but I still found myself bringing a boy scout knife, sak, leatherman is much more useful for my daily life.

Don't get me wrong, that BOB is really nice but I love the ESEEs. My brother introduced them to me a couple years ago and they were my first "better than average" knives. I'll probably revert back to the JG3 as my go-to knife eventually because it's easy to carry and feels good in use; and the ESEE 4 seems to be a really suitable size for me when I want something bigger than the JG3, although I don't think I'll every consider the 4 an every day knife. Looking to pick up an Izula II in the next few weeks. Any difference between it and the orignal other than the presence of scales?

VanDammet that knife looks great. Love that look.
