Who else EDCs a fixedblade?

I need another knife kink like I need a hole in the head, but I'm here anyways.

Where do I get started? ~4" and less than $50.

Bad Blood makes some in that size and price range. Cold Steel does too. That's just a couple right off the top of my head. Lots of options out there.

Hi AntDog,

Just get a kydex sheath made. If that's what you're asking?

That's plan B I suppose.

Two things :
I was thinking I can't get one made for the price of the Peace Maker which is less than $24 with shipping (I think I have seen them for $20 with shipping from time to time).

Also I figure I can't get the round / smooth sheath WITH the metal clip; see below.
The ones you are thinking of are the wide flat folded over type right ?

Bad Blood decepter. I bought one on a whim. Not bad for the $27 I paid. I carry knives 7-8-9-10 times the cost but this one is impressive when I think about value.

irona,

what do you guys like about EDCing a fixed blade? Do you use it more for work, or is it for the same daily jobs I use my folders for?

  • There is no slot to collect debris and goop.
  • It is quicker and easier to rinse off, easier to dry and no need to oil a pivot afterward.
  • There is no liner lock that gets stuck with the knife open and no need to waste time or get cut trying to get the liner lock unstuck.
  • It is the quickest and easiest way to deploy and put away a knife.
  • A locking folder can get dirt or other debris in the lock and so prevent it from fully engaging. A fixed blade is always FIXED there is no way it can fool you into a false sense of security and then give way on you in use perhaps injuring you in the process.
  • It is rare that a folder can be had with 3V steel (I want a knife with 3V steel).
  • Often folder handles are a compromise; they are thinner so you can have more clearance to get your hand in your pocket.
  • Folder handles are very often not sculpted for best / multiple grips.
  • Many fixed blade knives are full tang meaning that if you have to you can hammer on the end of the handle to get the tip to penetrate material or be driven into a vertical structure so that it an act as a foot peg or stake to anchor off of to support or lift something. Think climbing piton.
  • If you have to use the knife to lever a person out of a car wreck the fixed blade is going to be way, way stronger for this than a folder.

Well that’s a few anyway . . . I am sure these guys can come up with many more reasons to like a fixed blade.

Just waitin for ccw in mail and i can start edc'in this bad boy, special thanks to David Brown for his fantastic sheath! 😁

Nice bottle of Blanton's.

I've been EDCing the little guy in my signature.

Where did you find the blantons?! I haven't been able to find a bottle for purchase in three years now...

No way! I hate having stuff on my belt! :barf:

Although I admit that while actually in the hand, a fixed blade is far nicer than most pocket knives. And that's coming from a die-hard folder fan! I rarely carry fixed blades, even where it would be "normal" to do so like in the woods. Neither does my dad, nor my grandpa.

I have, however, taken to keeping a fillet knife in my backpack. You know how some people keep "bug out bags" in their cars? Well I have something similar, except it has fishing stuff. A fillet knife beats a pocket knife out of the water when it comes to cleaning fish. Plus, I don't have to get fish gut remnants inside my knife, and thus end up with fish guts inside my pocket!

I do have a friend though who EDC'd a fixed blade for a while. We used to work the evening/night shift at a big campground together, and he carried one of those little tiny skinners with the finger hole tucked into his watch pocket. It worked pretty well for what we needed it for, cutting cords and into sacks of fire wood in addition to more normal pocket knife duties. You could get a much more secure grip with that finger hole than I ever could on my leatherman.

I would edc a fixed blade if I didn't get such frightened looks when I pull out my Spyderco Delica...

One of my own makes that I have been carrying while doing outdoor activities.
