If the knife has a black clip, I get pissed when I scratch it and the silver shows underneath. If it's a shiny silver clip, I get pissed when I scratch it and mar its shiny perfection.
So if it's a user knife, I eventually don't care if the clip gets scratched up and shows wear. As for black vs shiny, it depends on the knife. My 710HS has black handles, a black blade, and it looks fine with a beat up black clip. My 940D2CF looks better with a silver clip (I swapped the black clip), and even though it's beat up and scratched (rather badly, I took a spill on my bike and the knife took some of the brunt), it looks better than the black one.
The only Spyders I carry with any regularity are a C3 ZDP/CF and a Tasman Salt. I really like the wire clip, because even though it's not coated, it's darkened and low-profile. The Tasman Salt looks just fine with its beat-up black clip (more bare Ti than black these days).
In the end, I think it depends on the knife whether it looks better with a black clip or shiny one. But most knives that look better black look fine with a beat up one, less so with knives that look better with a shiny one.
