Who Else is having Staining Problems with CTS-XHP?

I've got three Spyderco knives with this steel. My beloved Domino, Techno, & Slysz Bowie.

They are all three getting little brown discolorations especially in spots that are often missed on the wipe down like inside the spydie hole and in the jimping.

This fact is very disappointing to me as the rhetoric on the steel is high premium. I don't find it holds an edge better than S30V nor is easier to sharpen, but is certainly less stainless.

I love everything else about these three knives and staining is not going to effect performance or stop me from using the knives as knives should be used.

I just wish Sal and Eric would offer at least run of all Spyderco models in S30V or VG-10...you know, for the guy that likes to really use his knife and not just pull one out and stare at it admiringly. :D Although I do suppose every man should have at least one weapon that draws admiring stares.

Seriously, is staining an issue for anyone else?

Cutlery Shoppe is dropping a orange pm2 w/ a cts-xhp dlc blade.. you can thank me later! :)

I typically don't go for for DLC coating, but I don't know if I can pass this one up. It'd also be an interesting blade to swap out.

I have never seen rust on my cts. I really like this steel too. Wish it wasn't a flipper (southard).

I've had the Sprint Military for a couple years now and no staining. Cleaned it for the first time ever just today.

XHP is one of my favorite steels. I find it takes a super sharp edge quickly, and holds it better than VG-10 and S30V. I live about 50 ft from the ocean and haven't seen any corrosion yet. I have xhp in the slysz bowie, manix sprint, native exclusive, chaparral, and mule.

I have many XHP blades because I really like the steel. Only one of those, a Cold Steel, is slightly discolored. It's just a patina though, not corrosion.

Currently my favorite steel.
I've been carrying my customized Foundry around a lot and no staining yet.
But it figures I'd hear of XHP staining this evening right after ordering an Olamic with the steel this morning. Just my luck.
I'll start using mineral oil on my XHPs.

It is a high carbon stainless. So what you describe is possible. Stainless is not "stain never". Not to insult you but try wiping down the blade better if it gets wet.

On topic. The only XHP blade I have so far is the Domino and have seen no staining yet, and find XHP to be quite similar to S30V for both edge holding and sharpening. I do look after it though.

I've used XHP quite a bit, and I haven't been very careful with it as far as keeping it dry or overly clean. That being said, I haven't noticed any patina or discoloration yet. It's a well rounded steel, I like it a lot.

My CTS-XHP military gets brown stains that wipe away easily but I don't get any rust as all with s30v.

I haven't had any issues whatsoever with XHP, in fact it's my #1 choice in a steel if I had to go with only one steel in all my knives.

How do you like it? The foundry is on my list

Same issue with S30V and BD1. No picture for the BD1 corrosion, as that happened a year ago and never since, but I have had the S30V show what you are talking about 1 month ago. Sorry for the bad picture.
