Who gives themselves an annual budget for blades?

Well, it depends. I budgeted around $500 or so last year. Typically I budget per paycheck or per month. $100 here or there on toys is a given, if I just had one hobby, I could dedicate a lot to it, but shooting, diy projects, hiking, and EDC gear burns up a lot.

I bought a Griptilian at the end of 2013. So, my budget began in 2014 and I started looking at higher end production knives. I started a thread on here asking about higher end production knives and received a ton of feedback. I even became a paid member! I picked up a DPx HEST/F used on the exchange for $150. Then picked up a ZT0561 used for $150ish IIRC. I decided to sell the DPx and keep the ZT and Griptilian. I wanted to really try out everyone's favorite EDC blades. I got my hands on a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and loved it at first, but it just wasn't the EDC everyone hyped it up to be. So I sold it. The Griptilian ended up getting more pocket time than the ZT, so I sold the ZT. I think I only lost about $30-40 out of the three that I bought and sold, so I didn't do too bad.

This year, my budget is a little tighter, because I'm eyeballing another Glock and a midtech or custom knife. I already have a fixed blade on order, from one of our forum knifemakers! That and my new custom pool cue is gonna cost a bit :)

I don't even try. (Rolls eyes) It is futile. My budget is this: bills paid? Check. Buy said knife. :-)
I have slowed way down in volume, but my price per piece has increased. 3 Jeremy Robertson's since November, a Hinderer Sterile blade Spanto, etc. I may only buy 4 a year, but they cost way more than they used to.

My thoughts..... if you are a budget person and stick to it. Then by all means include your hobbies such as knife buying.

I used to have a general budget for just about everything when I was not married with exceptions. With marriage, there is no control. Mostly there is uncertainty. I recorded the actual cost of every purchase, but lumped fast food (lunches and breakfasts and so forth) as part of a pocket money allowance. What I discovered was that it was all a waste of time. Either you exercise some judgement and restraint or you don't. I found that regardless of any budget, if there was something I really wanted or felt I needed, I got it. Now I "budget" relative to what is happening in my life in the coming month or items that are "have to's". If I feel like a new knife is in order, I do it.

As a full time student, I can spend all of my disposable income on what ever I want. Mostly electronic related things and knives.

Hopefully my standard of living will improve this year, but for now I try not to spend more than $250 or so per year on knives.

Electronic stuff is fun. You by any chance an Audiophile?

I have 3 pairs of headphones but I wouldn't consider my self an Audiophile, I just like nice things. I'm no where close to as nit-picky as I am with knives as I am with music.

This year I've opted not to buy a single blade. Lunacy, I know, but instead I'm putting the cash toward my own knife shop. Nothing fancy, just a homemade forge, anvil, hand tools, belt sander, etc. I've wanted to tackle the challenge of making my own blades for a while now and this year I'm going to give it a go!

Now that I've said (or typed) all those words, does anybody have a line on a cheap/free anvil. Lol.

You know, I was just contemplating along the same lines... Dremel or new knife?

TouchOfRed - Audiophile as in vacuum tube amps, etc.? Not myself but used to be in the tube biz years ago...

Most of my nice knives come in the form of a birthday gift or Christmas gift from my wife. So usually one or two nice knives a year out of my wife s gift budget, and one or two bargain knives a year out of my saved funds.

Pretty much me too.

I only have one pair lol. But im looking for my next purchase. But i need to step down a few notches in knife buying so i can spend some on a new pair.
You are more picky with knives than with music? correct? :P

*An audiophile is a person enthusiastic about high-fidelity sound reproduction* Grabbed from Wikipedia lol. Im not really good with explaining in english.

Yes, All though I've started to accept that not every knife I buy will be perfect.

No budget for me, I just try to be responsible with my purchases. Lately, I have been considering downsizing, selling some duplicates and adopting a buy one/sell one philosophy.

I miss my ath AD900s and q701s. Have a nice pair of krk kns8400s and some klipsch icon speakers.

Most of us here on BF are knife enthusiasts so we all crave some type of knife, now the issue is most of us can't buy everything that we want so we end up prioritizing our purchases. Some of us sell some off, save for awhile, or end up throwing it on a charge card. I am prudent in spending on knives I want, but after bills are paid and groceries are neatly stacked in the refrigerator I buy what I can comfortably afford. And I cycle this philosophy throughout the year.

It's near impossible for me to have a budget because I collect high-end customs. I can say I'll only spend $10k this year but what happens when a rare Todd rexford comes up for $10k and I just ordered other custom knives? Sometimes with these customs that is your only chance and if you don't buy it you won't get another chance. I currently have 7 customs on order which is insane. I've probably told myself 100x I'm not buying anymore knives and bam once in a lifetime knife comes up and I'm paypalling... I'm lucky I can afford it but it's still sickening, 2 years ago I wouldn't have spent $100 on a knife, now I just got 2 knives worth $15k...

Same here lol. But i dont collect such expensive customs as you though. :P
My range is like 300-1000$ per knife. But its very rare finding a custom for 300$, and that is with damasteel, so he is charge about 205 for a fully custom. Never seen that before lol.

I just counted how many customs knives im going to recieve this year, turn out its going to be 17. Did not think it was that many. Oops :D

I was exaclty the same two years ago lol, wanted to buy a Spyderco Tenacious, but i could not understand why a knife would be 50$ LOL...

two knives for 15$, you are a sick sick person ! haha just kidding, thats awesome you can afford it. I can not afford that. Im lucky i can afford my knives though.
