Who has a ULIZE?

I had one and sold it a while back but it is definitely one I am considering buying again.

I do. Definitely a keeper... :)

My Ulize is a deceptively small and comfortable folder for its size. It has a 4.1" blade and weighs only 4.7 ounces. The curved handle, moderate jimping and bead-blasted G-10 afford a very good grip. Best feature of all is the relatively narrow profile. The hollow ground VG-10 blade is not wide (1.04" at its widest where the hole is), has good cutting abilities and still 0.12" thick.

I've got one too, a special one to boot. Its one of 50 that's got Uli Hennickes signature on the left side of the blade. I travel a lot, so i got it modified with a G-10 coin in the hole, so I can bring it along to countries with restrictive knife laws.

I've carried it a lot on duty. It's a great knife. Very slim so it carries extremely well and the hollow grind, recurved blade is a devastating cutter. Most people thinks it looks scary though.

My first one had a small hairline crack in the liner, but Uli took care of me and swapped it.

Only gripe with the knife, is that the backlock causes a hotspot in my hand when used hard.

During a heavy storm, I was once sent to fallen tree on the highway. The top branches were blocking a lane and presented a hazard, so I used my Ulize to trim most of the branches, thus opening up the lane again. I was wearing leather gloves and using the knife hard for about 20-30 mins, really leaning on it to cut as fast as possible, but the lock was a killer on the hand. You can see the red spot on my hand in the pic, just above the lock. The Ulize shined though even with hard twisting cuts.

But that's the price you pay, for carrying such a slim lockback knife. Nevertheless I definitely recommend the Ulize.

The Ulize is very thin in the pocket, yet packs that big, honkin' blade. It also has a solid, sturdy feel in the hand. I'd like to see an SE version. If I had a Top 10 EDC list, it would be on it.

I like this a lot !! I agree with powernoodle this in SE would be killer !!! Spyderco needs to make all models with full serrations like they used to.

I gotta stay off these forums... I'm going to buy myself another one to replace one I sold now.

I doubt if there'll be a partially serrated version although I also think them useful especially in a knife with such a long blade where you're still left with plenty of plain edge. I don't think there's enough demand.

If you look at the 2014 Spyderco Discontinued Product List - Official you'll see quite a few discontinued CombinationEdge ones including the second Spyderco I ever got in late 2005 which was a Military CombinationEdge:

BY21GP&S – byrd Wings
C29GFP – Cricket Black Nishijin Glass Fiber PlainEdge
C36GPSE – Military Model CombinationEdge

I say ool as in cool, and ease as in, uh, ease. Ool Ease. But I also have no idea what I'm talking about. There may be a "zuh" on the end. Ool Ease Zuh.

Can someone please give me the hooked on phonics pronunciation of Ulize ?

I think it's a portmanteau of the designer's name, Ulrich, and the German word for police, polizei. So I'd say Powernoodle is spot on with the ease bit, but with the Ul being a bit shorter and more guttural.

Welp....this site cost me some more money, I hope I did good got it for $131.00 ,I think I did good....yesterday it was 147.00.

You did just fine and congrats. I got mine about 3 months ago for $139.90 delivered.

Here's my Ulize next to my Spyderco Military ComboEdge. It gives you good perspective on relative size plus as you can see the serrated portion of such a large blade still leaves you with plenty of plain edge.
