Who has a ULIZE?

Got one... Signed version... what a cool blade!

Welcome to the club :D

I have one. It's great blade. Wicked sharp light and carries well... But packs a long blade into a slim carry size. The recurve isn't extreme and isn't difficult to sharpen with the corners of the spydie sharpmaker

I got one after reading the article in Tactical Knives. Partners well with a serrated Police.

I have a question....is anybody's else's kind of stiff to open?

Having the Spydie hole relatively close to the pivot, in conjunction with the long blade and having the back lock, does make the knife a little firm to open.

My Ulize opens very smoothly in one motion. I didn't have to do anything to it.

I've got one too, a special one to boot. Its one of 50 that's got Uli Hennickes signature on the left side of the blade. I travel a lot, so i got it modified with a G-10 coin in the hole, so I can bring it along to countries with restrictive knife laws.

I've carried it a lot on duty. It's a great knife. Very slim so it carries extremely well and the hollow grind, recurved blade is a devastating cutter. Most people thinks it looks scary though.

My first one had a small hairline crack in the liner, but Uli took care of me and swapped it.

Only gripe with the knife, is that the backlock causes a hotspot in my hand when used hard.

During a heavy storm, I was once sent to fallen tree on the highway. The top branches were blocking a lane and presented a hazard, so I used my Ulize to trim most of the branches, thus opening up the lane again. I was wearing leather gloves and using the knife hard for about 20-30 mins, really leaning on it to cut as fast as possible, but the lock was a killer on the hand. You can see the red spot on my hand in the pic, just above the lock. The Ulize shined though even with hard twisting cuts.

But that's the price you pay, for carrying such a slim lockback knife. Nevertheless I definitely recommend the Ulize.

Now that's a knife! Thank you for your service.

I got one after reading the article in Tactical Knives. Partners well with a serrated Police.

I have both these knives as well and they do indeed partner up well as you said. I 'waved' my Ulize with a plastic strap and it opens beautifully.

Explain 'waved' to us old guys Larry. Not being sarcastic. I'm sincerely curious.

I like this knife a lot. I've held it at the outlet store but I bought the Hungarian instead in a budget choice between the two. Im going back for it next month. Ha! I kinda wish it was a bit longer. Not all of us 'Spyders' are enthralled with 4 and a half inches on every production folder. Almost five. Al...most...five. How about Five and Three quarters? Lets go for Six.
My main D-EDCarry is a cased Civilian and even though I have had it for years I've always wished it was a bit longer. But thats just me. The Ulize 'looks' longer but we just cant seem to break out of that " just shy of Five" mold. And spare me the 'Colorado Legal Carry Limit, line. Wife is a prosecuting State attorney and I'm a retired Fed. A 5.25" Ulize won't reign in anymore grit than it's current length sitting in the folds of one's pocket. Ahem. Lord, you pull out a Dragonfly in a defensive encounter and it is the same result legally. Longer, please ...Sigh.

I agree with Greykilt above in his desire for a longer Ulize. As far as what I mean by 'waved', I just attached a small plastic tie strap [some people may call them 'zap straps' I think] into the spyderhole and cut it as short as possible. The strap nub catches the back of a front pocket as you pull out the knife and opens it automatically. It may look a little odd but if you get tired of it you can cut it off in seconds. The term' waved' comes from Emerson knife company's folders which have a wave shaped hook on the back of the blade that opens the knife like my make do tie strap does. [ of course I didn't think of the idea]

I never thought of modifying the thumbhole. Hmmm. My modification was to hand the knife to my grandaughter who would open it and hand it back. Very effective but not so practical in a defensive situation as she tends to run. :D
