Who has cut yourself well enough to give up knives?

I had a run-in with a Microtech LCC, while practicing openings while driving. What made things worse was that I was supposed to sleep over for a golf tournament early the next day.

I had to turn around and go back home to the hospital to get stitches in my thumb. I asked if I could play golf the next day and, of course, the word was, "no."

I went anyway and played the next day. I have to say, the adjustments I had to make in grip actually improved my score!!

(The only trouble is, now I have to go around and cut myself each and every time I play golf. ..) LOL!

Dropped a 3 1/2" hunter on my foot fumbling to put it back on my belt. Seemed like it was slow motion watching it drop and not being able to move my foot. It cut right through my boot and stood there stuck in the top of my foot for a second, then fell over.
I started laughing and swearing until I felt the blood running inside my boot. Then it was just swearing ;). I had trouble stopping the bleeding, but didn't get stitches or anything. Have a small scar.

Carving a horse for the top of a mantle clock I was making and the knife broke free. Like a dumbass I was holding the peice down with my free hand when I could have had it clamped. Sliced across my middle finger right between the first and second knuckle almost to the bone. Had to get 3 stitches cause it wouldn't quit bleeding. Let me tell you its a very VERY strange feeling after they've numbed it to watch the doc take tweezers an pull it apart as wide as possible to see how bad the damage is, then start stitching.
The real fun is that we were leaving for florida for a vacation the next day, and I was told to leave the gauze on my hand for at least a day and keep it elevated. The nurse had forgot her scissors, and used a whole friggin roll on my middle finger. BIG WHITE flag to flip people off with. The flight attendant seemed rather impressed ;)

No I haven't given up knives, on the contrary I started making my own. :D

When i first started to collect and thus play with knives in earnest, i was cutting my thumb several times daily, my thumbs were always just one big cut, but it didnt prod me to give up knives, just to be more careful, and i guess ill give up knives when i inadvertanly cut off my head. :)

I cut off the tip of my left hand ring finger with a SS Endura serrated(hospital trip).I just recently stabbed my left thumb with a Cuda Maxx that opened a tad as I went to put it back in my right pocket.Hit the bone on that 1....OUCH,Blood
Still love my knives;)

As long as I have a hand with at least a thumb and two fingers to flick, handle open knives, I will forever be a knife freak.

I am pretty sure that goes for most people here

I made a nice, little cut on the meaty part of the hand right below the thumb when I opened my Chive one time. I didn't think the opening arc of the blade would've been that wide and then as it opened, it was moving fast enough and it just caught the very tip, so I got a nice slice there. Stupid thing is, the same knife cut me a week later. I was opening it, and didn't have a good grip. Somehow I slipped, and like a moron, I tried to catch it. Well, I did catch it alright... for a second or two before I dropped the thing and cussed it out.:D Now whenever I drop a knife, I just let it fall and get the hell out of the way since my floor's carpeted.

I cut my hand with a swiss army knife about 8 yrs ago trying to take a handle bar grip off of my bike. It hit an arterie and blood was squirting all the way to the hospitol. I squirted the nurse when she took the towel off. hahaha Then about 3 yrs ago I was flipping my new gerber gator around and managed to fling it into my leg going through my shorts. I still have the shorts with the slash in them. And I still have the scar in my leg. But I still like to collect knives and I still like flinging them open. Now I just try to be extra careful.

cut my left index finger clean off with a G-LMF a few years back. Took 7 years to get full movement back but it still aches like a sum bitch during thunder storms...Damn titanium knuckle! :D

Still playin with plenty of Rats, so it could not have scared me off that much.

I jacked up my right hand index finger a while ago stabbing an old couch and accidentally running my Microtech LCC into a wood post. The knife stopped right away, but my hand sure didn't, and those microtech serrations went to work. The only reason I didn't cut more of my hand was that the serrations got caught in the bone of my index finger. After I got back from the hospital I checked out the knife and there were chunks of meat-like stuff in the serrations... Crazy! So much blood was coming out of my finger it was dripping off my elbow all over the place! You should have seen the look on the doc's face when I explained to him how it happened

This is what knife experts teach so when you have to defend your self and you hit bone this doesnt happen or the knife doesent go spinning out of your hand. The street smart section in the march 2003 issue of TK knives there is a defensive training article by Jerry VanCook that shows you how to train when you cant afford or dont have access to a trainer. In the article it shows and explains palming the butt of the knife and a few other good tips.I know attacking a couch and using your knife for utility purposes is different than defending your life. But if you learn to use a knife a certain way and practice it at all times it will become a natural reaction when (and pray it never does come) the time to protect your family or your life comes.Just my 2 cents...........R
