In my Forever search, I have often thought I've finally FOUND IT, THE one knife I have always wanted...only to find the lure or feeling pass and the search continue. So my question is, has ANYONE ever FINALLY gotten THE one knife that ended their search? I know several have settled on Sebenzas or Mayo's or Carsons or JW Smiths of this world BUT I see that most keep buying different variations, so limit your replys to those that have found only ONE actual knife that made you quit searching...or am I doomed to walk this land for eternity in a vain Quest :D

To date, here are some that I almost thought were going to do the trick;

Sebenza, a dream of mine a long time ago to get one...

Older BM Butterfly Knife, had several as well...

WhiteWing Warlock, now this was a close one!

William Henry, had several and they are very nice!

JW Smith, had a couple, blade length was a tad long so off she went..

Dobruski, this has potential, but limits me as I love wharncliff blades but find they need a supporting knife for other uses...

Scott Cook, very nice knife, recently picked it up and it is growing on me as I type, more on this one as the days go by...

Wood/Irie folders, amazing work and beautiful knives, but just something didn't work for me...

So my short list, let me know if someone has found the Ultimate knife for them, as I know...To Each His Own, so what may be nothing special to me, is THE knife to someone else.

Thanks for reading down this far!

Every knife I buy is "the" one untill I find the next "the" one. Right now I have 4 in mind I want to buy. Starting with a Spyderco Kiwi, and a Military.

So your answer is no I take it...;)

And I feel the same way, but worry, not a lot, but still worry that I may NEVER find THE one...

Each time I discover a knife I tell my wife, this is it! Now she rolls her eyes and laughs, funny, so does EVERYONE at work!

Mnandi from Chris Reeve also looked like it might do the job, but wasn't for me...

I had several customs as well, from folks like

Alan Folts, excellent folders, both his Number 1 and Number 2, but needed cash and off they went, if they were THE one, I don't think I'd be able to part with them.

Also Otha, very nice folder with giraffe bone handle, needed other stuff and off she went...

The list goes on, I'm gettin' all misty eyed...;)

Thanks NGK-WebMaster! I truly wish you luck!

I join you as one of those doomed ones. Both my Sebenza and Dozier Pro Guide brought about a short pause in buying (at least). Hmm, maybe a small Sebenza is "the one" - yea, that must be the answer! Off to continue my quest....

I had a couple of Doziers, Companion model, very nice as well

Sebenzas I've owned a few, not as many as my friend StJames!
But recently had in my house a small Classic wood inlay that I was Quite attracted to! But since I still have a plain jane Classic I let the passion die down on that one...if I see one forsale at a good price though and it's S30V bladed...but there I go again! Do you see what I mean :D

And Kutch, I'm afraid more and more that you are most likely correct!

PS
Edited to add that the knives of those makers listed were NOT in anyway faulty, it is a PERSONAL fitting/taste type of thing and I can MOST FIRMLY vouch for the superior quality of the knives those makers produce! It should not be otherwise!

Which reminds me that Neil Blackwood made a beauty that I do dearly miss...
Mike Irie as well, several Fixed blades with stag, of which his Hawkbill one is left and that was a Gift from Mike! I always treasure the gifts!

Man, so many knives I've owned, my head hurts almost as much as my heart over the history of steel that has passed through my hands.

First, I have to say that there is more than one THE ONE. There's one each of many different knife types--THE big chopper, THE food prep knife, THE elegant gentleman's knife, THE tactical folder, etc.

I have found THE medium-sized outdoors knife. You can see it here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=200597&highlight=stain

It's perfect for me. I'm totally satisfied with it, and I've stopped searching for knives of a similar type.

I'll have to keep searching for THE ONE of all the other knife types I use.

Best of luck to all of us in our quests.

I THINK that the SOG Trident that I just traded-for will be THE knife, when it arrives in a couple days!.:).

Hey G2!:)

If one bases their choice of THE ONE on how much they've carried said proverbial blade, mine would be my 2nd TNT, a large recurve, but that too has been retired, so color me doomed. :D

But as a dead smart guy once babbled, "To travel hopefully is better than to arrive".;)

That is a beaut!
AND I do concurr that perhaps there isn't a ONE AND ONLY THE knife, but a certain one for specific types of use...that may help?

In my case then, my THE knife for a large fixed blade is the Cold Steel Trailmaster...I can hear the heads waggin' already but this thing severly cuts and keeps it's edge and so far for over 5 years at least I've been very happy with it's performance and not looked for a replacement...I take that back, when I did search for a replacement I always ended up moving the replacement and staying with the Trailmaster...5/16" thick spine, flat ground to the back, 9 1/2" of shear cutting power...arrrgghh arrrgghhh...need to calm down eh? :D

ps
edited to agree with AL...good saying there! ;)
Long live the Journey!

I despair of ever being able to truly find THE ONE. I can't even say which one is my current "favorite" but must instead refer to a group of five or so. I have thought so a couple of times, but, no.

I just wish that I could honestly think of myself as a collector with some even vague idea of how to find THE ONE . No, I am an accumulator and will just stumble around in my unorganized way until, hopefully, it announces itself to me.

Even so, I am finding the pursuit enjoyable and intend to continue.

Listening to you all makes me worry... my road to THE knife must still be long and expensive; and even then I might not find it :(

THE last knife for me was a Sebenza, now I'm waiting for my first real custom (Jens Anso). But what's next? I hold on to Kwaiken's wise words and enjoy the ride...

i don't think the perfect knife exists.no matter what i get or how much i like it theirs always another that i want just as bad.it's like drugs no matter how good it is their has to be something else that gives you a little better high-lol

Gary. . .Gary. . .Gary. . .

This knife addiction is just like Lays potato chips. . .can't just have only one !

But. . .alas. . .I have found THE ONE.

It's the one that I always have in my pocket ! Of course, there are a bunch of'm on a very special shelf and in a safe that periodically end up in my pocket ! :D :D :D

I used to be happy with the knives I had and then I found this site. I have run out of specialized tasks to buy knives for. This is when I started feeling the addiction/ obsession for the perfect knife and have become a collector. It used to be computers for me and that is a tough one to keep up with and who wants to have a collection of outdated video cards. The knives can keep their value or even increase. They will always be making something better and that is the fun of it for me. The quest for the perfect knife :)

Right now it would have to be the camp tramp sere 2k combo.

I have three "unlock" tumblers, the first being a small everyday-carry folder, the second being a large complimentary folder, and the third being a compact fixed blade.

The first tumbler set on a small plain Sebenza with double thumbstuds and old-style clip in November 2001. There were MANY folders ranging from productions to customs over a ten year span until the right one came along.

The other two tumblers are still tumbling...

Professor.

THE knife for me was the Spyderco Wegner. This knife feels like it was made specifically for me. I love it. And then it was discontinued. :(

I have found "the" maker, which is Mike Snody. I love his Sharpfusion blades, but the only folders that have it are Brad Duncan Whiplashes. But carrying a Whiplash (which is much better than expected), isn't really like carrying a Snody. I love my S30V Snody Resistor, and I would certainly settle for this knife, if I could have only one.

So the answer is yes, I have found the one folder, the Snody Resistor!

Tsk,Tsk, seems as if you all are....doomed:eek: ...to wander
forever in the land of want.

All I can say is I have found my perfect knife. Sure like you other
poor souls I spent a lota money learning what it would be. And then.....
out of the clear blue:D it came to me!! On sale to boot.

A Buck 307 4 1/4" stockman made by Camillus for Buck. I fine that this
one knife is so darned useful :) that no matter what else I carry it is always
with me. Can't say if I'm burnt out on knives or just finally know what I like.

Yea, I guess I finallly know what I like......I get that way sometimes. ;)

I thought that the Sebenza was going to be the one for me and it was for quite a while. It seriously stalled my buying as I felt that other production knives just wouldn't hold up against the rugged Sebenza. Well that eventually went away and now I have the Sebenza standing in the Cup-O-Knives with my other EDC assortment.

Evolute said it, there are too many different tasks that we use knives for to have only one. And to be quite truthful, if you have money to spend on things you want, why would or should we have only one or to settle for only one for all tasks no matter how expensive.

Metaxasm also hit the nail on the head about this and other forums. Since I have been reading these forums, my spending has increased dramatically. You read about the new this or that and you just have to get one to see if it opens as smootly as everyone says, or holds an edge as well or better than steel X, or feels as good in the hand and pocket as reported.

The quest for the Holy Grail of Knives never ends.............
