Who has modified your RAT

This one was stripped, patina'ed and I added some texture to the handle scales.

Also made custom kydex for it.

what(how)did you do to the handle that looks great! I have 4
RC-3s and am thinking about doing something like that.it might be time.

I'm not sure what he used, but a chainsaw, needle or round file works well to textured handles. Dremel works a bit too fast for my liking.

that patina, is it hot vinegar?

I would love to know how those handles are done!!!

This has to be the best I've seen!:thumbup:

Thanks guys.

The handles were done with a dremel. I marked out evenly spaced, 45 degree lines with a sharpie and then used the dremel to remove the material.

The dremel does work quite fast but I have used them a ton so I'm pretty used to them. If your not, you might be better off with round file.

The patina is a vinegar dip and scotchbrite inbetween each dip to even out the coating.

Thanks for the info Shotgunner. That seems like a very useful mod and looks good also. To bad I don't have any knives with micarta anymore. :(

Nice work Shotgunner. For a long time I've thought one of the things that attracts people to Busse's, is the beautiful contours and texturing they do on their grips.

at first, i thought you were suggesting to use a chainsaw to texture handles... i wasn't sure how a dremel would be too fast if a chainsaw would be ok... maybe it's the liquid apple pie.

Here's one I put a shango notch on - still deciding whether or not it was a good idea :)

I used a dremel tool.

The half round notch on top helps to direct the shavings down and then striking with the back of the notch will shower sparks. I don't carry my sheath on my belt, but in my front pocket so it is pretty convenient for me to strike with the sheath on.

Here is the videos using the notch. I like it!!!!

That works pretty good. You could also put a notch on each side of the top of the blade (next to each other), just forward of the thumb serrations. That way you could use both notches without flipping the blade over, whether you are right or left-handed.

Good job myright

About the only modding I have done was partially stripped my Izula and gave it a vinegar dip.

That looks good paintballer - I've been thinking about stripping my RC3 ever since I put that notch on.

shotgunner11 great job. I love the handle and the blade has a great patina with the vinegar. I might have to try that sometime.

I took a round mini file to the little choil on my Izula just to get the coating off. Now it works perfectly on the smallest fire rod that goinggear sells. Does that count?

You're all tired of seeing my Izula by now...but I have an RC 4 on it's way and I can't wait to start my mod job on it...
I'll be stripping the coating off, maybe convexing the edge , I'm not sure yet if the 4 lends itself to convexing yet, I'll be replacing the handles with black Micarta, doing away with the screws and replacing them with Corby bolts.
Leather pants.......can't wait.;)

thanks shotgunner11 good to know how you did that, maybe oneday.

the only mod I've done is sharpen a pommel on a RC-3

look back over the last few pages - there have been a few mods

I stuck some micarta scales on my Izula and patina'd it with use :)

Showed it before, but fits in here.
TAK, scales grooved, Coating removed, blade mustard etched, thumb rest
