Who hasn't tried a high hardness carbon steel fixed blade knife?

All will be clear in a little while. Be patient, drink the Kool aid and wait like the rest of us.

At least that is what I have been told (And I for one am looking forward to it).

;)

If I could figure out why my emails aren't getting out it'd be much easier to do than to have guys try to email me first.

So that's it? Hmm, I thought this thread would be a little more active.

Well what are you sending mysterious emails about? Inquiring minds want to know.

Maybe it's a surprise party. A high-carbon surprise party.

All of my high-carbon, high-hardness blades are, I suppose, nominally stainless (my ZDP-189 Delica has a noticeable patina, and the one S30V fixed blade I have at 60 rockwell isn't quite so shiny as it was when I first bought it); the rest of my fixed blades are the standard 1095 in the mid-to-high-50s. I just haven't really come across any in the more exotic steels that I both liked and could afford, though I'd love to get my hands on a ZDP mule.

I have one blade and really need to make another in M2 at about 65 HRc. That's as high as I've gone.

I have several non stainless blades that I guess range from mid 50's to high 60's, both production and hand made.
I also have several stainless blades, which take on way more edge damage than I prefer. None get used except the zdp delica, for light use only.

Interesting thread. Is there an advantage to high hardness carbon opposed to a high hardness stainless? I am behind on the "super steel" curve and am really enjoying S30V right now, although I really like my little Candiru for a handy small fixed blade. Is high hardness less likely to chip than a stainless? Or is there some other secret I don't know about?

I have a custom 1095 at 61 hrc that I really like, but am wondering what all the Secret Squirrel stuff is about also.

Me2, tried contacting you through the email listed on you profile but several people told me they're not getting through. Can you contact me through my email? They seem to come in but not go out.

I reset my email. If anyone was having trouble, please try again. Bodog, did you get the email I sent to you?

I think my hardest carbon steel knives are Bob Dozier blades at 61-62HC. I really wouldn't want something like 1095 much harder than what Kabar does on the Becker line.

I'd be interested but I"m not sure if what I have now counts as "high hardness carbon steel".

Can we maybe get some examples of production and common custom knives that are in this bracket?

Hardest knife has to be my ESEE 3 with 1095 at , other than that I only have a Kershaw Starter in 3cr13 which isn't very hard and doesn't hold an edge very well at ~50 :(

This whole bodog email business is mighty suspicious. Yellow alert.

"High-hardness carbon steel?" "Send me an email?" Somethin' ain't right here.

I have'nt. I'm shy about making an investment into a knife that's not easily sharpened myself. I have 2 bucks with 420 hc and a SAK. The newest buck, a spitfire, is holding it's edge very well. I've had it for over a month and yet to sharpen it. The 110 needs sharpening now and then when used, the SAK needs sharpening regularly but I use it the most. I use a cheap steel w/o diamond coating. I'd like to try something out in S30V but not sure it's worth it as sharpening is easy on what I have.
