I'm curious if anyone here EDCs a HEST and if they get any regular use out of the prybar and wirebreak notch?

I do, and I do rarely, and never on the wire breaker.

The bottle opener, however, gets a HELL of a workout.

As my ranch knife, the prybar on the HEST gets a serious work out. I often use it as slotted screwdriver. The heavy tip is a great tool and around 5pm the opener gets used a lot...oh and did I tell I discovered some genius had built in a razor sharp knife at the other end of the prybar??

I've heard rumors of this "knife" thing you speak of. Can't find it yet.

i carry it everyday, around the farm it gets alot of use opening hay bales. prying out fence staples and general cutting. i've pared horses hooves with it cleaned them with the prybar. used the wire notch fixing the wire feed on a hay baler.

its a good all around work knife.

take it easy

I carry my HEST everday (but not at work). It hasn't seen a lot of battle yet but I expect that to change soon.

just changed from the Izula on my waist (in a tek-loc) to the HEST.

yard work this weekend found some uses for the blade and prybar.
batoned some oak for a fire pit fire sat. nite...but really I just wanted to do it,
office today, I opened some packages with the prybar.

oh yeah...can't forget the bottle opener - works great on some cold XX's,

"Stay thirsty, my friends!" lol!

I alternate depending on my mood and gut feelings as I'm leaving. I have a couple of HESTs, an RC-3MIL, and a RAT-3, and one of them is always on me. I like the blade length and serrations of the 3MIL, and I like the blade thickness of the HEST. I'd love to see a HEST with a slightly longer blade and some serrations. I haven't had many occasions to use the pry bar, but I did use it to pry open my frozen-shut truck door a couple of times this past winter. I have used the wire notch a couple of times but only in testing it, not out of need. I've used the bottle opener several times. I carry all three of them in a reverse grip on my right side when on my person and I have had a couple of pokes in the side from the pry bar when getting in the truck. Nothing serious and never any broken skin, but never the less I think I am going to mod the pry bar this week when I go back over the hang out with the guys at RMJ. The last couple of nights out taking night shots photos I've been carrying a RAT-3 just because it's sort of a compromise...it has a 1/32" thicker blade than the 3MIL and a longer blade than the HEST...but I still really like the HEST, I think once I mod the pry bar a bit it will be my regular edc fixed. One of them (HEST/3MIL) will stay in the console and the other on my belt so I can switch out if I need to for whatever reason.

I EDC'd my HEST all last week on vacation in N. Mich. It was pretty much with me from dawn to bed-time all week except the one day I was on the kayak most of the day. Didn't have a belt, nor the clip on the HEST sheath, so it ... um... dunno. I might have put it in my day-bag. It opened a heckuva lot of beers, but I've never used either the wire-breaker or the pry-bar.

One suggestion to those who have been poked by the pry-bar in reverse carry: I filed off the corners a bit, originally in an attempt to work it into a flat-tip screwdriver that could also turn larger Phillips heads. It pretty much eliminate the poke in the process.

I wear my HEST horizontally on the left side above the front pocket.
Haven't stabbed myself with the prybar yet.
I've only had the HEST a few weeks and only edc it on weekends, so haven't used the prybar yet

Edc my H•E•S•T (I found the lil dots thanks to RYP) I love it I use the prybar as a screw driver and other stuff that doesn't require a pry bar buts more fun with it. I pretty much never use the bottle opener or wire cutter, but it's nice to have.

Share the riddle of the dots, if you can!

I WANT to EDC my HEST, but do not because of the prybar's desire to poke through the fabric of my pocket.

I can't really belt-carry it around where I live... all the soccer moms will let their kiddos watch the softcore porn that is MTV and most reality TV, but the sight of an adult exercising his lawful right to wear a knife on a belt sheath around here would be intolerable and impressionable on their precious little snowflakes. I keep it handy in my maxpedition bag, and can fetch it whenever I need it though.

The wirebreaker doesn't have much use around my suburban house, but the prybar could find all sorts of uses. I don't drink much anymore, but the bottle opener would have gotten quite the workout in my fightin' days.

i edc it and find it very usefull, the prybar is the most used part for me. from back scratcher to screw driver to scraping old caulk out of cracks, poking and prying ect...... I also wrapped the handle instead of the scales to lighten and conceal nicer :)

Today I got the call and went to my dealer - my KelTec Sub2K FINALLY got in!!! (9mm Glock edition)

I've had some add-ons lying around for months waiting
(since I put in the order for the gun)
and I just started putting them on when I got back to my office.

the Hest helped me reassemble the bolt group into the bolt tube when I did something wrong in reassembly:
- the "fix" called for a flathead screwdriver (used the prybar)
and then another "fix" was to use the flat end of prybar where the KTOG forum said I could use a wood dowel (to reset trigger)

ok, I could have used other tools, but the HEST is on me...and worked great!

i carry mine all the time. the beer opener gets the most work, but the prybar comes in handy too. they removed a door handle from one of the breakroom doors so you could not enter unless you went by the front office, hest is the key to getting in unnoticed by office staff....

I carry the HEST everyday. I've never used the wire breaker but I've used the prybar to the point that its profile has changed. Used as a flathead, dug up roots, rocks to clear out a bed on the ground, etc.

It's tough to conceal for me in the summer, but in the winter (long sleeve button shirts) I carry it a lot with paracord on my belt. Summertime I carry strictly folders (unless out in the woods where concealment isn't a big prioroty). T shirts and a 30" waist don't lend themselves well to concealed fixed blades.

I hope to find the middle ground with the HEST folder. HEAVY duty and concealable.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but if the HEST is your EDC, do you use a sheath other than what came with the knife? Pics of these?
