Who here EDCs a HEST?

Since modifying one of mine it is definitely an edc piece of gear now....after months of being a most-of-the-time piece of gear. Although I do sort of wish I had remembered I had been carrying the numbered one all the time before I took the belt grinder it.

Not only does it function better in the one task I have really needed it for so far...prying open a frozen truck door...but I also feel more comfortable with it in reverse edge use now.

But I honestly do not get the point of turning the scales around. One of the things I like about the knife is the slant on the scales that give my thumb a good purchase and better control when holding the knife in a pinch-grip where the handle meets the blade as I do a lot of times in things like skinning and food prep...and slashing cuts if it comes to it.

Now I can not feel like a traitor as I did when I started carrying the RAT-3 so often due to it having a substantially thicker blade than the 3MIL (3MIL on the right), because I like the thicker blade of the HEST better than either for urban carry.

So for you guys that switched your scales, did you flip them bottom to top, or end to end?

Meaning, is the slanted end of the scales still on the same end of the knife-handle, with the slant now oriented the opposite angle? Or is the slant now on the butt-end of the handle?

I flipped them bottom to top and surprisingly, it feels better.

This thread and the pics are making me want a HEST more than ever. Not to hijack the thread either but does anyone have a spine pic of the HEST and RC3 to compare thickness?

I carry the HEST in the front pocket of my trousers. Makes a perfect EDC, and will excel in the outdoors as well.

I can definitely live with this idea. The pointed pry.....just plain bothers me....can't explain it. Perhaps it is the idea I have to worry about something else poking me instead of focusing on the blade. which can cause more damage than the pointed end of the pry. :)

Thanks for showing me this.

Well i've got my new HEST in my hot little hands and man this sucker is beefy. I've never had a knife with a blade this thick before. It's probably not going to be my EDC blade except on special days but i do like it quiet a bit.
