I want to take up fishing again to take my mind off problems, and try to relax. If anyone has any pictures to share, it might get me motivated.

I used to fish quite avidly, but that has died off a lot recently. Sadly, my 17yr old son doesn't really have much of an interest in fishing. We went out some when he was younger, but that didn't last.

Probably 10-15 years ago, I used to go out a lot. At work, we would plan trips up north near the Canadian border to flyfish (and drink) the local lake tributaries. The whole shebang, the waders, vest, some of the guys tying their own flies, etc. We would rent a cabin for the weekend. At night, we'd go spot moose along the road, or bears at the dump. It got tougher to find like-minded people, so those trips kinda died off.

Then, for awhile, I used to go out with my dad and flyfish with surface poppers on some of the local ponds. That is a blast catching a fish like that. As his health declined, so did our trips.

I do usually get out once a year now on a deep sea trip. Totally different experience...actually, I do have a few pics of our last trip out of Gloucester.

That was some good eating while it lasted...

Looks good glennbad, sounds like a lot of fun to! Thanks for the pictures and story.

fishing something i keep meaning to do more, only been out a few times in the last few years and no pictures, I'll wait till I catch something good :), there's a pay lake not to far from us know i had been thinking this summer...maybe this thread'll motivate me to :)

i don't know if i "catch", but i definitely "fish." i wish i had talked to you more about it at the gathering, but alas....i was really drunk at the time. ;)

i grew up on the coast of Northshore Mass and would surfcast for Stipers frequently off Plum Island (great spot). here is a little schoolie from years ago when i was back home visiting....

I would freshwater spin fish quite often too. Lake Champlain is an excellent fishery.... a variety of species and a lot of fish. BIG bass....

About 4 years ago, i took up fly-fishing so i could head out with the fellas on an annual fishing trip up to Moosehead Lake in Maine. the outlets held great trout and salmon fishing.

Like skiing, fishing is cathartic for me. it is an escape. i get lost on the river (or wherever). it's definitely where i find my peace, so i highly recommend it if you are looking to find some.

btw....Glen, those are some great pics. i will take a bucket o' cod any ol' day.

happy friday guys. cheers.

Good pics Sean! is that a big ol' Lake Trout? or, is that a salmon? either way, niiiice fish man.

King Salmon.....one of four that day. I've fished them from a boat in deep water but my favorite is to clamor out on the breakwall rocks in September to fish them from shore. Awesome action and they attack lures (my favorites are big jerkbaits) like that lure stole something from them.

They're great fun to catch, especially close to shore because they go crazy when you get them in close. They do really well on the smoker. That one actually ended up as a smoked salmon dip for one of the Gatherings.

A couple of my "go to" bass baits....

Never seen a worm rigged like that. Does it work? Seems like you would get some good action like that. If you can tell but then have to kill me I don't really need to know that bad.

Every year when I buy my hunting/fishing license I tell myself that I'm going to fish more, but hardly ever do. Usually go trolling for hybrids with my parents on their pontoon boat. Last year fished for bluegill in a farm pond, kids really enjoyed that.

Used to fish for Blue Gill in the pond back on my grandparents farm in Missouri. It was an absolute blast. I was young and got scared off by a water moccasin, don't care much for snakes. I still fished it very carefully and on full alert, a testament to my courage and/or lack there of.

You and me both!

It's kind of a variant of a wacky rig (which is how the Senko in the first picture is done). It uses a cut-tail worm, a Gamakatsu shiner hook and a stainless ring (BPS has the rings in the saltwater section for like $3 for a hundred). I can look and see if I can find the original bag of rings to check what size they are. They're roughly 1/4" ish. It works great.

If you use the Senko, the one in the pic that is cut in half with the jighead is a great way to recycle torn up Senkos after a few fish.

Get enough motivation yet?? Great pics!
And if you guys are like me, you have never regretted taking a fishing trip! Especially if you know you need the break; gotta balance it out sometimes!
