Who is buying these new Benchmades?

Benchmade and Civivi are both in stores like wallmart now. Which has to be massive for brand recognition.

I would say in Australia you wouldn't find either of them in a non specialty shop.
Benchmade is in Walmart now??

I obviously don’t know what’s driving Bm price increases but a few possible factors to consider is that could be the economy in general, we’ve all been to the grocery lately. Or maybe it has something to do with the new competiton coming from overseas with quality knives with top notch materials that now occupy the $100-200 range that Bm can’t compete with for obvious reasons.

I think it’s important to consider that price increases don’t always translate into larger profit margins. For example there’s a good possibility that those high quality knives with excellent materials from overseas may actually have a larger profit margin than the overpriced bm with cheaper materials. I think benchmade still makes great products and I think more than likely they’re doing what they think is needed or has to be done to stay in business in what has become a much more competitive market especially from overseas. Personally I don’t feel bm is raising prices in a greedy money grab.

I respect your opinion, and you make some good points. Yes, EVERYONE has felt the pinch of inflation. Despite that, let's be honest, BM prices were overly high LONG before the last 3.5 years of bad economics and governance.

Exept that companies like Civivi make a killing. Because they are producing the quality without the price tag.

I RARELY, if ever, buy Chinese knives.

So, the whole "Civivi" thing didn't even factor into my previous post.

I currently own four Benchmade knives. Only one of them was purchased recently. I bought the knives so I can’t complain about the prices I paid.

I think I might pick out one more Benchmade at whatever price the dealer can give me and then call it quits on the brand.

That way I can look back in time after five years or so and be even happier about the prices I paid for these fine knives.

The low and middle market is being squeezed by a flood of options from you-know-where. That only leaves the upper market where profits are higher and you need to make fewer items to achieve that profit. Our buying choices have consequences.

The issue is companies like Kershaw and Hogue who do the same thing (or better), for less money. The Hogue Deka is just a better Bugout at a very accessible price.

I have never purchased a new Benchmade, neither am I likely to, but I have handled many… and neither the QC nor the quality has been impressive to me. Especially for the high prices.

I am no stranger to expensive USA-made folders, but for a similar price to the Narrows you can literally have a Holt. Or a Tactile Archer (which I carried today). Or a nice Hinderer.

I like Benchmades and have half a dozen -- Puukko 200, Mini Rukus, 710, Grippies -- but they're asking $350+ in Canadian Loonies for a Bugout and $679 for a Mini Narrows. I like the Axis lock but these prices are absurd. Wouldn't buy another.

And a standard Bugout cost more than a Grip 550. Pfft!!
That is surprising to me as well. I wonder if it is due to the titanium pieces in the Bugout. The weight savings has to be vanishingly small vs stainless steel for those tiny pieces.

IMHO, the Griptilian is a good deal for a knife that will last the rest of your life easily.

Ozark Trail is a Walmart brand. Walmart isn't a Benchmade dealer and I bet most of the 3rd party sellers on Walmart.com are selling counterfeits.
Yeah. Makes sense

In which case it will be interesting to see what peoples perceptions are. I assume people will go to shops and play with knives and set their standards off that.

For us it's pretty easy. The standard is Gerber pretty much.

So you buy a Benchmade and you think you have something special.

Same with that Ozark Trail I imagine.

Benchmades were my first acquired. Had a mini adamas, auto fact, freek, CLA and a few others. They were also the first to be moved along.

No complaints outside of a few fit/finish gripes. I don't find them overpriced for the most part, all things considered. They are easy to move on the secondary and hold value relatively well. Just not my style.

Great company, nice products for sure.

For me the aluminum handled Bailout is a better knife, with better blade steel and a more comfortable narrow profile at 1/2 the price. The difference in weight is about 30% of 1 once.

N2s
I agree I love my 3v tanto bailout
