Who is buying these new Benchmades?

I am. But I'm not paying MAP for them. I bought the Narrows because I appreciated that it was something different, something unique. It's a design that actually pushes knife engineering a bit, instead of being the usual. Yes there are several high quality American titanium framelocks I could have bought instead, but I've got plenty of those.

When I see a expensive Benchmade I personal feel bad for who ever buys it. That customer is missing out on either a high quality product or a better design. With the expiration of the cross bar lock patent the door has opened and I am loving it.

So they are missing out on a good design but you are excited that other companies can now use the same design now that the patent has expired?

Think CRKT redemption, coffin handle with the lock bar assisting the opening. Benchmade never really evolved the lock anyways. Look at kizer's clutch lock evolution, why did it take 20 years to be able to adjust Omega spring pressure?

Isn’t the CRKT Redemption with steel and G10 at $225 the same problem as the Narrows in better materials at $500?

Proceed with caution, this is CRKT you’re championing here…

Why evolve something if it simply works? I believe BM also caters to those wanting a very very familiar knife with no surprises, year over year. They may just be some of the largers BM customers. Us tinkerers on this forum, on the other hand, are probably a minority. :)

I actually respect BM for their fantastic new and original designs with modern steels, at a variety of price points, while striving to manufacture them in the US. Those who buy the expensive ones are certainly finding some unique value proposition, maybe unknown to me, but more power to them!

IMHO, Benchmade and Pro-Tech have the same problems: CQ+Price.

I stopped buying the former-to answer your question and the latter-because it's relevant.

YMMV

Does CRKT actually make anything? Pretty sure all their new, "we don't suck anymore!" designs are imported from CA (aka made by Hogue).

That’s good to know. I could ignore the CRKT logo on the blade for that one, it’s pretty cool!
