Who is the greatest?

Dan
I get you,I all think we have some talent locked inside
and it is exspressed through knife making,But some makers
stir you up and form some of your style

Well, what got me started was Ed Fowler from his articles and book, and of course Wayne Goddard.

Then theres Bruce Evans, just love his bowies, and he's the one that taught me to forge weld.

David Winston makes some awsome knives also, especialy his scale release autos, and makes a great slip joint also.

There are many more who have inspired me, or given me ideas, but there to many to list without filling the entire page.

Lloyd Hale. The first artist, the one who saw beauty in the steel and its form.

Then: Buster Warenski because he makes flawless knives with no apparent effort; Bill Scagle because he lived the true life and saw the magic in the fire; and of course R W Loveless because he is a model of commitment and knowing what is right and sticking to it. There could be no better bunch of people to try to stand near.

Except this bunch; the makers here at Shop Talk are the greatest and most sharing and helpful group of professionals that has ever shared the dream. I owe every miniscule bit of skill I've accummulated to the fine folks here - the Bruces first and most obviously because they've jumped in there personally for me, then Ed Fowler who makes the ground shake when he stolls by, and all the movers and shakers from NEKCA (however that acronym goes, sorry guys), that is going to be one of the most influential groups of knifemakers ever, you just watch. (Here I am living in Iowa - sheesh)

Now I've run out of thoughts but as soon as I hit the submit button I'll think of half a dozen more...

James Black - he kinda started it all (for us here in the US)
Bill Moran - one heck of a guy and bladesmith. What he has done for the forged blade is unbelievable along with Don Hastings and Bill Bagwell. Just extraordinary people. Jerry Fisk is continuing this on as well.

I admire all the folks above. Not only do I admire their work, I admire what they have done to promote and continue our craft.

My signature says it all. I never dreamed that there were THAT many people involved in knifemaking. I just haven't figured out if I'm running with right crowd! :D

I think Dan says it very well. Every well known maker I've had the fortune to have contact with were always cheerfully helpful and MODEST. As far as makers on this forum, my vote goes to Dan. His website is a good example of how he helps new makers and the entire knife community understand knifemaking. O'l Dan is saving a lot of new makers a lot of sorrow with his efforts. No,I'm sure not going to leave out Mr. Fowler! He gets a vote, too.
