I like buying off the rack and I stick to what have worked with me and I like Chris Reeve stuff. Any of his large sized knives are awesome like the Green Beret, Project series, Shadow I, etc.

id go with a busse. A fixed blade would be much more useful imo. Wouldnt want the extra mechanics of a folder (oil and such would be very hard to come by to keep it operating well)
