  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Who is Your personal favorite custom knife maker?

Those Childress knives in the knifemakers for sale forum are badass, I just never have the right timing/money combo to get one before someone else does! :D

I'll give you 3.

Darrel Ralph
Reese Weiland
Rob Dalton

I am going to have to say Alan Davis.
I joined this forum to buy a knife from Alan (I am sure there are a few people that wish I left right after my purchase!)

He might not be a 'big name' maker, but his ability to make an amazing variety of folders, with just about every material on the planet, put him in a very unique and small group of makers.

His fit and finish are as good as anything I have ever owned, at any price, and he's a really great guy.

Here is some of his work for those of you who are unfamiliar with Alan.
You can see his growth in this great thread (thank you Dennis)

I buy from guys I know, and some of my favorite blade smiths are Tim Olt, Rick Menefee, David Winston, Gene Ingram, Dale Howe, Larry Rossi, Phil Patton, Ray Laconico, Brian Andrews, Tobin Smith........dang, I must buy a lot of knives. :)

Best experience I have had was with Dave Curtiss.

Jeremy Robertson is also very good to deal with.

Tim Britton
Bobby Toole
Hiroaki Ohta
Those are my faves, great knives from each, with a number at $300 or less!

I don't have a huge collection of customs but I do have knives from about a dozen different makers and the first guys that came to mind are Alan Davis and Big Chris. Both great to deal with and make great knives.

Too many to mention.
There is such talent out there.

Agreed, I seem to have different favourites in virtually every category of knifemaking. And since there's almost endless knife categories there's almost endless favourites.

Haha, I honestly wasn't expecting a custom maker to weigh in on the subject, let alone with his/her own name.

+1 on style for Menefee

Rick Smith of Bearbone knives. Beautiful work at a good price. Walt Campbell of Campbell handmade knives makes as good a using knife as I have seen at his price level.
