Gawwwd, ain't that the truth. If I knew then what I know now it would have put me at $250,000 to the positive just on my home investment alone not to mention all the losses my business took and continus to take.. If things here don't pick up soon I will be forced (literally) to high tail it outta here.

All this talk about G-ville has got me reminiscing about the late 1970's and early 1980's when I used to live there with 4 of my friends out in a house on 75 acres right on 39th Avenue bout 7-8 miles west of I-75. That's when it was a two lane highway and you'd see a car on that street once every 20 minutes most days and evenings. Our nearest neighbor was the old Chanel 20 antenna substation.. We used to hunt and fish on the property when money was tight. I remember many a rabbit, dove, quail and bass and perch on b-b-q back then.. I stopped back over their on the way home from the Blade Show in Atlanta in 2006 and man that place has changed. No more house, no more property.. Just asphalt and assholes. :D

Hey, do they still have Leonardos Pizza and Skeeters resturants they're any more?

North end up towards Union county. Funny, I was in Archer today.

I'm really closer to Gainesville than Archer. I live on 346a so I'm hardly even in Archer. I just run into town to the Dollar Store every now and then if there's something I must have....or if I just feel like killing time.

I'm about 10 miles from Archer. A little bit off parker road. I actually just went there a few minutes ago.

You are real close to one of my friends. He's on....ummmmm.....SW 89th ave? Its the first dirt road on the left if your coming down parker road from archer road.

All of you young Gainesvillians stand by for a local history lesson:

The Skeeter's on 13th is now a Books-A-Million. The closed sometime around 1990 or so (maybe later my memory ain't so good). The opened another resturant at 238 W. University (yep youngins, where the bar is), to be closer to the downtown party after hours stuff your face scene. It lasted a few years then went away. The reason, Skeeter became aware it was more profitable to run a nudie club (Cafe Risque) than an eatery.

Skeeters had biscuits as big as plate and some damned fine 'home cooking'. Many a UFer ended up there at 2 am when all the bars closed. Food was pretty damned cheap too.

I remember Skeeter's from when I was a kid but didn't know it was owned by the same person that owned Risque. I also don't remember them moving into 238 but I probably wasn't even a teen yet. Pretty neat hearing about it. Thanks!

Yea man, that's what I am talking bout! :D :D Skeeters Big Biscuits came on platter plates and back then you could snag several eggs, home fries, coffee and one of those beheameth Big Biscuits for like 2 bucks.. That place was the best feeding spot in the county. Thanks for the all the other info too Mr. McCord. I left in 1984 and like I said hadn't been back since, othere than a quick stop in 2006 so this was very interesting. Much obliged.

rmc85,

The fishing hole is history along with the 75 acres of forest property and the old homestead we lived in. Its been cleared, sub-divided and developed.. Oh well, as they say, "that's progress".. :grumpy:
