Who loves their SAK?

I always carry my Wenger with locking blade, saw & other standard equpment - its my mulipurpose and if I had to choose only one knife, I would probably choose this one. When I go outdoors I usually take one or two of my longer fix blade knives and my axe.

I also love SAKs, and I have a large collection of them.

My all time favorite one is the Vic Fieldmaster.

It has the perfect compliment of tools IMO.
And I switched scales with my StayGlow Climber, so now I have a StayGlow Fieldmaster!

The StayGlow scales are awesome, and they make the knife very easy to find if you drop it.

Cheers,
Allen.

I love my SAK's. I have a Swisschamp I got from my parents as a kid, a newer Swisschamp that has the pliars, and a few Huntsmen. You can get the Huntsmen cheaply on ebay. It has two blades sciscors and a woodsaw among other things. Make sure you get one with a woodsaw.

I've got a Victorinox Rucksack. It's part of my EDC. It has:

3" locking blade
3" wood saw
can opener/small screwdriver
bottle opener/large screwdriver/wire stripper
awl
corkscrew
toothpick
tweezers

But if you want something real cool, CountyComm is selling the current Bundeswehr issue SAK, by Victorinox: http://www.countycomm.com/swiss.htm

That Bundeswehr is great except for the serrated blade, but that is easily fixed... It is interesting that it has the straight portion at the back, because a lot of people have wandered why no one make a knife like that, because that is where you NEED a straight part for a lot of woodworking tasks...

You all do know, don't you, that you can mix and match blades, to create a custom version with whatever combo you want???
There were some people over at the SOOSOK that have done that...

My favorite SAKs.

1. Older style German Army knife- this one is great. No other tool on an SAK can match the combined usefulness of the saw/bottle opener/can opener/screwdriver that this one has. The awl is the best one for an SAK in my opinion. The saw is double toothed. The blade is a longer one. Downside: the stupid internal liners. The newer GAK looks neat too but three separate tools to take the place of the combo tool ? And back to a single tooth saw it seems. The newer GAK is really just a one-hander Trekker with olive drab military scales. These older ones are also made by Aitor and other makers besides Victorinox (but not by Wenger I think)

2. Alox Farmer- a little shorter and heavier than the GAK but a great awl and strong as a mastiff. The blade is in between the GAK/110 mm length and the "standard" length and is thicker than the Officer Suisse blades. Still has the saw also but single tooth only.

3. The newer 110 mm series- A lot to choose from here from one blades with a corkscrew to fat one-handers. I do not like smooth red scales or really any of the smooth plastic scales but most of these seem to be textured on the scales and the shaped handles are large and can be nice to have.

How about an Alox Farmer at a GAK length with the thick blade and the combo saw tool instead of the 3 to 4 other tools to replace this one. Maybe throw in a waterproof memory stick and this one would be perfect. :)

I've got one of the ex German knives. The blade is thicker as well and the blade really snaps into place and stays there, because the springs are heavier. Good knife and it gets used often.

I would only consider one of the larger models with a locking blade. I use the Huntsman model with locking blade, saw, awl and small recurved blade.

Vic Swiss Champ. It's battered a bit know from me using it to things now and then. I've used the saw a lot in the past. You could use this thing to build your dream hooch in the woods.

I have a smaller Wenger SAK that is a recent addition and pretty usefull.

i have 2 small saks that i have on my keychain. 1 is a cadet(i think, not sure what model) that i got at a yard sale 4 $5. it was a knife + mini mag lite combo still in the box. The other 1 is a small black 1 with small blade, nail file and scissors. along with a leatherman squirt i carry my saks everyday.
I love my saks a lot and ive managed not 2 lose any tweezers or toothpicks so far :)

In the woods, I carry a Vic Camper or one of the German surplus Mauser Pattern knives.

one week from this thread's birthday. i've got quite a few sak's. my yellow huntsman's my new favorite flavor but it's still pretty hard to beat the one handed trekker. obligatory love for the pioneer.

I have a mini champ, an alox classic, wenger soldier, vic fieldmaster, wenger hunter (think thats the name, its the standard one with saw and scissors)
vic 111mm outrider, and a blue alox farmer on the way.
I dont have it yet but my ideal sak is the 111mm one hand fireman, with the serrations removed from the main blade.

I only have one at the moment, a Wenger Handyman, but it has done everything I have ever asked of it, which is an awful lot. From whittling to cutting PVC pipe and 1x4"s with ease, to unscrewing my niece or nephew's latest toy's battery compartment to add batteries, to putting new holes in a too-large leather belt with the awl, to removing splinters with the tweezers, to opening cans at the campsite, to opening my Dad's bottled beer or my Coke, to filing my fingernails. I love it. Plus, it has sentimental value to me, being my first knife.

I've got my eye on a Victorinox One Handed Trekker, too. It seems like a really handy knife as well.

I carried a Vic Hiker for the longest time. Then a Rucksack. Now I EDC a Farmer, but I think I prefer the Rucksack as a woods knife.

even though a sebby feels like a mercedes in your hand i'd rather live with the oht in my pocket.

I have a Vic Huntsman that I saved up for and bought when I was 12. It was my edc and only knife (other than a USAF pilot's knife) from then until just a few years ago. Now it is in semi-retirement until my daughter is old enough for it.

Last year I got a Vic Outrider. It has virtually the same implements as a Huntsman, but in 111mm with a locking blade.

Dam straight, I love my one handed fireman, great knife.

The only differencewith it and the OH trekker is the serrated belt cutter, which is a sweet tool and I used it as much as the main blade in an old parachutist I have since given away. But why have the main blade serrated if it has a belt cutter?
