Who loves their SAK?

If you want a small 3.5in model the 3-4 layer models are easy to carry and hace the most used tools.I like the alox farmer and the hiker, huntsman or fieldmaster would be a good choce.

If you want a locking model try a rucksak or trekker. The saw on the larger ones is much more effective for shelter making etc.

Darn straight, Thats why my OH fireman is in my psk on my belt. If by some chance I loose my knife saw or axe and eveything else, Ill hopfully have my psk, and be good to go.

sci, farmer's one of the most desired sak's among sosakers. i don't have one but if it's built like the pioneer and standard issue, it'll have heavier duty compontents. thicker blade, stronger springs, meaner reamer, stuff like that. if the camper was your first choice, get the farmer, you'll love it.

i didn't want scissors either when i started but i couldn't resist the yellow scales on the huntsman so i got it and they're pretty good, they glide smoothly.

I didn't get the Farmer for my first SAK because I wanted the little stuff (tweezers and toothpick) and the corkscrew for now. I'm hoping to get a Farmer next, and possibly start a small (GASP!) collections of SAKs for everyday use. Nothing crazy, just simple tools to be used; not to sit in a box and look pretty. We'll see, haha.

i love mine so much but i dont know the model i boughti it at a MD surplus store form a bag od airport confiscations for 2.50 and it has a large blade a small blade ,saw , bottle opener/large screw driver ,can opener/smaller screw drivler ,awl and cork screw red scales and an old stly shield with a equal sided cross

seen here

the cross

only difference is the cross is silver

but all the silver in shield and cross is gone

I EDC a Vic Farmer, a Vic Rucksack lives in my BOB and I have other SAKs scattered around in my bicycle bags, my truck etc. The Farmer is probably my favorite, I like the Alox scales. JMHO
Gene :D

Rucksack for me and a little two blade model for my wife. I have had SAKs for 25-30 years. I also like the look and utility of the Hunter and Fireman, which incidently are very similar to my Rucksack. I dont go for the bells and whistles models. I tend to go for the lighter, leaner designs.

Yeah the outrider rocks. If only it had a OHT style liner lock blade.
I may buy one to cannibalise the scissors to add to my OH Trekker.
The only problem is i fear if i buy an outrider i would like it too much and not want to alter it. Recently I have bought a few extra SAKs just to remove specific parts for a mod , the problem is i usually like them too much and am almost reluctant to "harvest" them.lol.

Hmm I just looked at some pics of the outrider online, the scissors look to be the same size as those on the 91mm SAK's. Can anyone confirm this? That would simplify things as i have a couple of spare 91mm's with scissors that i could cannibalise instead.

I had been carrying a spartan or a soldier for a long time. I kept hearin about the farmer and ordered one after reading the first couple posts of this thread, and I LOVE IT! You really can't beat an SAK. Leatherman's are good on say deuce gear or in a pack but anywhere else they're too heavy. An SAK cannot be beat for functionality and ease of carry!

I want a Trekker with scissors too. A good option for me was to just add a Classic. I EDC one on my key ring and came on a Stayglow Classic that tucks into my sheath-mounted PSK. There's a local flea market with a guy selling confiscated knives and the logo/advertising Classics go for $3. How can you lose for $3! I stepped up and paid $5 for the Stayglow. I'd love to see the Trekker with Stayglow scales too.

Yeah i like leathermans and multi tools in general. I carried a Wave for about two years but in the past 6 months i've almost totally gone back to SAKs, (however i still have a leatherman micra that i carry). Usually i EDC a OH trekker or an old SwissChamp. And recently i've occassionally been using my first SAK, an old econo 84mm recruit.
I went almost 6 years without buying any new knives but lately the SAK collecting/modding bug has hit me hard! I'm almost out of control, lol.
Hello my name is Thomas and i'm a SAK-aholic!
:D

If i didnt have my trekker lock blade, id be lost. When I go out in the weeds camping, its my centrepiece. every other knife and tool supports it.
when i leave the house here in daily life, its either this, or my kershaw blur, but i tell ya this, its INFINITELY more useful than any other edc ive ever carried in my life. hands down. the blade is a decent length, it locks, i can open flat or phillips screws, open cans, and that saw, will saw you in half its soo sharp. Best knife ive ever owned.
