Who makes stainless fixed blades?

Depending on budget, Fallkniven (especially the A1) and Chris Reeve's post One Piece range knives are fine examples of SS fix blades.

Just about all the factory manufacturers use stainless for at least some of their product line. You just have to recognize that a particular steel is "stainless". Only the really cheap stuff will list their steel as only "stainless" or "surgical steel" or something like that. I would look at Bark River knives to see if you are comfortable with the pricing and their handles and so forth appeal to you. Just about everything is good. Their A-2 is not stainless, but it is a very good carbon steel.

The A1 is great. It's laminated which is claimed to be 20% stronger the a homogeneous stainless knife. I haven't pushed My A1 to its breaking point so who knows. All the blades "carbon or stainless" chip if they are really sharp and hit the ground while batoning. It takes more attention to detail if you have any hair whitting edge on a tool.

A2 is definitely a great carbon steel! I love it. While it isn't stainless it does have somewhere around 5% chromium which does lend some rust resistant properties (in my experience anyway), especially with a nice patina.

SOG has some good budget offerings like the North west ranger and Seal Pup etc

Ed Martin does some awesome work with CPM S35VN. I use his knives in my experiments and in wilderness skills instruction. He does a triple temper and double cryo-quench that makes for a very tough blade that takes a wonderful edge. I think his prices and very good deals for what he offers.

His T3 SERE model has a 5 inch blade. I just got it

The smaller Bush Hunter has seen more use in class work. It has a 3.5 inch blade.

I did a review on this model a while back

I also really like Ed's sheath work a lot, and the modular systems he does.

Amazed that no one has mentioned Case yet. There is no reason to spend that much money for a knife unless you want to. If you are going to baton with a knife you need a small hatchet instead. A Mora will be all the survival knife you need.

Gravelle Knives here on the forum makes some great survival knives with 3V steel in your price range, I have an FK5 and I love it.

Sure, no one needs a sports car but they are more fun to drive.

Add another vote for Fallkniven. The convex edge on this thing is amazing. I have destroyed hundreds of logs with it.
