Who Makes the Best Lockback?

I'm sure MolokaiRider MolokaiRider could answer those!

For #1, I will go with the Cold Steel Tri-Ad Lock.

After that I would say Spyderco.

I haven't had any Bucks in a long time, but never had any trouble with them either.

I like Spyderco as being in the middle lockback makes it easy to manipulate.
I’m sure others can be nice as well, I would like the tm1 just haven’t:/

Cold Steel/Demko would be my first choice. After that, I don’t think you would be disappointed in Spyderco or Buck. Spyderco does the mid backlock while Buck typically does the bottom lock position.

I have lock backs from all three, and a few others as well. It is my favored lock for many different reasons so I tend to gravitate towards those that feature it. All three can make decent and comparable versions.

Lock backs can have, and typically do have, at least some amount of play in them but unless it is extreme or sloppy it is not a functional problem. Until liner locks, frame locks, etc. came along no one really had much concern about it, but once people experienced no-play lock-ups, any play became a non-starter almost and lock backs fell from favor. I must admit to being less tolerant of lock play myself.

The Tri-Ad changed all that. In my humble opinion it is one of the best innovations in knife lock development to come along in a long time. Not exactly a lock back, but close enough to be in the same family. Pretty much all of my current rotation uses it. I will say that early versions of the TA can be sticky ( I have one Counter Point like this), but all the later ones I own have been very smooth to operate.
