Hi all,
I am making plans to make an aluminium water cooled pneumatic vice for heat treat. I want to know if there will be a market for these and if you need one in general?
It will be a great help for heat treating batches of knives.

Let me know what you think?

Thanks!

Nick

Hi Nick,

I use a pair of quench plates in aluminum currently. I have them arranged in a vise to allow for the compression. They are 6”x18”x1” thick, each.

I can tell you that they get pretty warm and using them over immediately would be an issue where your device would certainly help. However, there is kind of a ratio of oven space to quench plate space. The real benefit would come if you had more “oven space” than “quench space”. Make sense ? In my case, the two are matched pretty closely.

My 2 cents but I am anxious to see the setup !

I'd be interested when I get set up to finally heat treat, that sounds exactly like what I would need

i understand. In my case i need them as the oven is big. I will show some progress soon.

I could definitely see needing something like that. Looking forward to seeing the prototype and any ideas on pricing.
