Who on BFC has influenced you and how?

Considering some of the drivel that has appeared on these forums lately I'd like to at least give Mongo an honorable mention for starting this wonderful thread. Give yourself a pat on the back.

One contributor that no one has mentioned yet is Sergiusz Mitin. He consistently provides thoughtful, knowledgable, detailed commentary.

Anne Reeve is always there to lend a helping hand on the CRK forum... I think that rocks!

Cmon guys.I'm sure there is someone.

I think some people were trying to avoid this thread b/c even with the few I listed, I feel bad that others were not. Such as Jake Evans was the first person that walked me through the trade process and pretty much eased all my fears about sending a BFC member knives on faith. Or David Winston, for opening me up to a new world full of Made to Order Customs. I could go on and on Such as Gary G, who devotes allot of his time answering beginner questions that are directed his way. Leaving people out, might be worse than not posting  :D

I probably forgot how many times people have helped me or influenced me, some of the posts have help ring a couple of bells.
Joe Talmadge have definately influenced me; his faq made me that much more knowledgable.
Keith Montgomery,Dex Ewing, SOGman have always been helpful here.

Credit is where credits due.
I can't figure it out all of them even if I could remember them all, but I know they're always nice and helpful here. To me, that's all it matters.

James Matthis for his insightfulness and wonderful scans that taught me I could also scan things, never to his quality but I keep trying...

StJames for his helpfulness and ability to not become wrapped up in superfluous (note $5 word...) threads when it wasn't necessary, if I could only learn that myself...

There are many that I enjoy reading their posts, too many to mention, but those two spring to mind as ones that have influenced me.

Threads like this always tend to miss several important people, and to those I do apologize!

There have been so many people here who have helped me out and shown me the Way. Everyone on the shoptalk forum for starters. Dr. Lathe, Tom Anderson, Kit, Darrel, Bruce E and Bruce B, Anthony C, I could go on and on. Thanks to all who have put up with me and my big mouth! :D

Joe Talamadge, Buzzbait, Keith Montgomery, Dexter Ewing, wolfmann601, rdangerer, Gollnick......

I don't see him so much anymore, but I always enjoyed Paracelsus. He definitely got me into P.J. Tomes, my favorite traditional knifemaker.
I always enjoy Les Robertson's information. Shootist is good for his legal perspective and I always like Dexter Ewing's info on new knives. Finally, my all time favorite may be Sal Glesser. His insight into the world of knife manufacturing has educated me and thousands of knifenuts or ELUs.

Many people for many different reasons:

- Joe Talmadge (steel knowledge)
- Rugger (cool guy)
- Don Rearic (self-defense topics, troll bashing)
- Vampire Gerbil (need I say more? ;))
- Cougar Allen (great moderator)
- Cliff Stamp (hardcore testing)
- wolfmann601 (always helpful + great sense of humor)
- James Mattis (wise man)
- Ken Cox (politically interested and educated)
- Safety Guy (self-defense topics)
- The Skinwalker (talented artist)
- Sal Glesser (knowledgeable and helpful)
- glockman99 (cool moderator ;))
- golok (interesting topics)
- Bernard Levine (human knife encyclopedia)
- Alarion (interesting perspectives)
- Dexter Ewing (cool guy)
- Eric Isaacson (Swamp Rat expert)
Knowledgeable, real tough guys defending freedom:
- Chris Caracci
- Mick Strider
- Greg Walker

I´m sure there are plenty of folks who should be on the list that I didn´t mention but these are the ones I can think of right now.

I don't know if "influenced" is the right word, but I sure like to read Buzzbait's posts. They are always right on point and very succinct. Also, he's not a snob - he likes Buck 110's and slipjoints along with his custom Doziers. Plus, when he talks about his activities in upstate New York it reminds me of my upbringing in Northeast PA - similar climate, culture, etc. His recent post that mentioned wanting a Mitchell 300 reel when he was a kid really took me back - I wanted one of those, too!

Well let’s see.... I’ll just say I think everyone here has influenced me in some way...I’d leave someone out if I tried listing them all:D

I have been influenced by everyone who posted opinions and helpful information or just made my day more interesting.

In particular, I think of Joe Talmadge, Cliff Stamp, Gollnick, and Don Rearic as people who've influenced or educated me on many occasions. But the strength of Bladeforums for me is the group as a whole.

Edited because I forgot to mention Sergiusz!

Since I first saw this topic, I have been thinking about those members that have meant the most to me on this forum.

First is Walt Welch for all the knowledge that he so unselfishly shared. Second, James Mattis, for just being James Mattis. Third, Ed Fowler, because along with teaching me a lot about knives he has also become my friend.

Then there is Spark and Mike Turber. Without them there would be no BladeForums. Spark is a better man than me for being able to put up with all the crap that happens on this forum. I couldn't do it.

There are many others: Gus, Ira, Cougar, Yiterp, Buzz, Cliff, Joe Talmadge, Les Robertson, The Undead Rodent(Vampire Gerbil), Melvin, Darby, Dex, Nifrand, Danbo, Cray and all the great makers that have been so generous with their knowledge and time.

I have also come to respect some of the new guys a lot. NGK-Webmaster and TheBadGuy(Jason) come to mind first, but there are others.

One guy that taught me a good lesson when I was fairly new here was Tim Herman. I know we never really got along, but that lesson has stuck with me ever since.

Don Rearic - Explaining the finer meanings of freedom (want vs. need).

SNARC - OODA loop. Wonderful tool.

Eric - Making USN work.

PhilL - Explaining knife photography.

Jerry Hossom - My first custom knife.

Cliff Stamp - Making me laugh.

There are probably too many people for me to call an influence, or to offer thanks to.

I think if we had a list of bad influences, my own name might find its way there! :D

another I forgot earlier was NEIL BLACKWOOD , for making me my first ( but not the last ) Custom......

Jerry Busse, Joe Houser, Chuck Buck, Sal Glesser, Mick & Duane, Wolfmann, and too many others to think of at one time.
