You know what I mean. Yes, we all love snatching up the traditional s and searching for that one knife that just really speaks to us. But, how many of you found it. Doesn't mean we don't still rotate our carry options...or carry multiples...it just means there is one that must be with you.

Mine is my yellow Victorinox Huntsman. It has traveled with me...seen many miles and countless chores.

Please share yours!

Ha! I guess I'm a lot like you, YellowSwiss. "The One" for me is one of my Railsplitters.:p Seriously, it really is.

Bah, disregard...
I didn't read this correctly and I thought it was about those that you Hope to find one day, but doubt you will...

Congrats to those that have.

ETA: I have a Northwoods Hawthorne Clip in Burlap on the way which might be my silver medal, if that counts.

I have found lots of "the ones." There's four of them on my desk right now, and who knows how many in the desk drawers.

Victorinox Alox Cadet in the standard silver finish is probably "the one" in the sense that you mean. That one has been in my pocket or in my bag ever since I bought it. I do still like to carry and use others, and often the Cadet languishes unused when it would otherwise be fine for the task at hand, but that is for the enjoyment of the variety.

I have. This knife is not my best, nor even my favorite. It is my most treasured, having received it for Father's Day five years ago. It's not an EDC as I carry other knives on the weekend, but it's probably in my pocket six out of every seven days.

The ones I always have on me are a SAK Huntsman (translucent red covers) or a Western c. 1961 - 1977 Army Utility knife (AKA "Demo" knife) a (US) Old Timer 7OT, and an Imperial (Ireland) Barlow.
The 7OT will be displaced by a Buck 110 in the coming months. The Imperial Barlow by a Buck 301.

For the last year, it's been this. The Camillus C4 saw scout. 30-06 shield. Beautifully jigged Delrin covers. 440a stainless steel blades and brass liners. Immaculate fit for a 3-layer knife. Saw blade and secondary sheepsfoot. Phillips and flathead screwdrivers. Cap Lifter for my daily IPA. This knife is everything I want in a daily carry, whether it be at home, work, or in the wild.

If I did I'd either have to get rid of everything else or quit blade forums.
If I had a knife that I just had to always have on me it would have to be the only folder I carry, because I'm not a fan of keeping a knife in my pocket just because I like it when I've got another on me to use.
I'd have to leave the forums because everybody's nice pictures are always tempting me to carry one of my other knives, and I wouldn't be able to do it and also carry the favorite.

The one traditional folder that's almost always on me though is my vic classic for the toothpick and tweezers .

Nope. My "one" doesn't exist yet - at least in a form I can afford.

I think the closest thing out there would be the Bose/Case Wharncliffe trapper (perfect blade combo, steel, length...for me) but I can't afford one - and I never see used ones for sale.

The Case 6207W mini trapper is close but I'm not huge on the steel. The GEC 48 improved trapper, 74 saddle trapper, or clip/Wharncliffe 77 barlow are close- but I'd like them at 3.5" or a bit shorter.

I keep buying different models I like, hoping to discover what turns out to be perfect for me, but have not succeeded yet.

But maybe deep down I don't want to find "the one". Searching for it is too much fun.

I have yet to find a be-all and end-all, but the Opinel 6 on the left is almost always with me, together with either a medium stockman or a Victorinox electrician, plus maybe one other knife of some flavor. Forever is a long time, however. Six months ago I had a different lineup, and in another six it will be something else again, but the little Opinel has been there for quite a while now.

There's quite a few that rotate through my pockets...but my Ohta whittler has left the house with me every day since I got it almost a year and a half ago (except when Gary had it for two weeks to make an amazing sheath ;) )

This Gerber has 95% of exactly what I've figured out I want in a knife. (took me years of trying different knives before I figured out what I was looking for.)
Carbide containing stainless steel at 59-60 HRC.
Perfect blade shapes and blade configuration.
Immaculate fit and finish.
zero blade rub when opening, yet the you almost can't see a gap between the blades when closed.

I'm a knife knut. I'll keep buying knives. But I'll keep coming back to this one.

Not exactly, but almost. I like my scout knives, but at one point I would like to get made / search for knife that would meet certain more specific criterias..

I'm not really looking for "the one" anymore. Not because it doesn't exist, but because in my search for "the one" I've found that variety to be more enjoyable than a single "perfect" knife. Synthetics, stag, bone, wood, stainless, carbon, large, small, one blade, 2, 3, 4, etc...
