Who out on the porch has actually found "the one?"

This isn't "the one" but it's as close as I've gotten to finding it. And it's probably not the one you think.

Just got my first RR...how is the Whittler? I am so impressed with the moose...it was surprising!

I really wish I could find the one knife that fits all situations and conditions. Probably the Vic Pioneer is the closet thing to it. There are just too many great ones though, and each one that comes my way is the one until the next one comes.

I would say the northfield Barlow spear and coping blade combo in natural canvas would be "the one" for me . It's just something about the look the feel and the sound it makes that's sets it apart from the rest . However it doesn't stop me from buying other knives as I do enjoy a variety lol .

I find that I carry a little Sheffield penknife by Stephenson & Wilson always and everywhere. I also carry something a bit larger, for more serious work--which rotates often, but my little pen knife is always with me.

I have found that my "one" does not mean it is my only pocket knife, nor does it mean that it gets used more than the others every single day...it is simply the knife I find I want around most of all. My Huntsman does not always come out of my pocket first. I just like knowing it is there.

As an experiment, I left the Huntsman at home yesterday, and had that feeling that something was missing all day. Funny how that works...even when I have other knives in my pocket.

This is the "The One" that started my passion (obsession) with knives, I feel very lucky to actually find one instead of drooling over just pics, but I will always continue to look for other old/new patterns. When I think of what a "traditional pocket knife" should be this is what I compare all others to in my ever changing collection.

There's quite a few that rotate through my pockets...but my Ohta whittler has left the house with me every day since I got it almost a year and a half ago (except when Gary had it for two weeks to make an amazing sheath ;) )

Stunning!

This is my 'one', Trestle Pines Grand Portage. A Barlow with a Screwdriver. I had been carrying Barlows in my youth and early 20s but if I didn't lose them I'd ruin them trying to use a blade for a screwdriver. I had been carrying SAKs and still believe those are best all around, there's just something about the Barlow that attracts me. Add in the wharncliffe blade which I've found to be so much more useful than spear blades and well it gets the pocket time.

As time goes on, I find this Texas jack to be one that I reach for more often. Carries well for over 4 in, and the blade selection does everything that I normally need out of a pocket knife(generally carry a fixed blade also). Well built and nice even pulls, ATS 34 takes and holds a nice edge. I generally prefer stag, and I only own 2 or 3 bone handled knives, but the old Remington bone has a nice look to it.

I've really been impressed by it. Super light and easy to carry and 3 very useful blades. I could get by with just the RR for the most part but occasionally I need a larger blade. It pairs up with a larger blade nicely.

I find it difficult to answer...

I've had this knife for over two years now and I see room for improvement. But every time I buy something that I think will replace it I just keep rediscovering how awesome the one I have actually is and end up selling whatever it is that I got next.

I'm still keeping an eye out for what else is out there, but I may be getting to the point where I can no longer deny that this is the one for me:

I have three that fit this category, so I rotate them at lengthy intervals, sometimes carrying one for many months, then switching to the other for a long period. They all suit me well and are all friends... My #55 spear-point which was my very first traditional (at least since I was a cub scout in the early 70's)... My #77 sheepfoot Barlow and my yellow Case Peanut.

I actually have, kind of. Case XX usa 6318PU 64-69 with a modified spey

That's real pocket worn ;)

This one have been in my pocket for a long time, before I resahped the small blade I carried for a long time a Case 6383 from the 70's but the main was too thick for my liking.
I rethinned the main blade twice because I'm a sucker for thin grinds and the thinness from the edge to the spine is perfect for manouverability.
Ideally with no budget limit, I'd make one custom almost the same but in a better edge holding steel.

My favorite knives to carry are 1-2 blade trappers, Barlows in any blade setup, and sodbuster patterns

I think the Beer Scout may be "the one" for me. I have lusted after one since they were released, but now that I finally got my hands on a "second" that I wouldn't be scared to use, it's all I have carried.

I love a sheepsfoot blade. Having a capable blade paired with a useful multi-function secondary like a cap lifter/screwdriver makes this a knife that can handle 90% of my weekend chores.

A nice patina on the carbon steel to accent the honest use makes it even more of a keeper.

Adore this knife. Dunno if I have much drive to find one I like better.

Carl if forced to decide between that Northwoods Stockman or the Buck which would you go with you think??
I'll never have the "one" but I do have the two. After a lifetime of use, I've found that I always have or return to the stockman and SAK. These two do everything I need in a pocket knife. After my last downsize, they are about all I have left.

I'm not convinced yet that there is a better knife for me than a Case Peanut. The one I currently carry constantly will be my daughter's one day. I have a GEC 14 TC Barlow that is carried daily and gorgeous, but I still pull out my Peanut first. Once I turn my current Peanut over to my daughter, I'll have to grab one of the other dozen that I have to replace it.

The Buck.

The Northwoods is a pretty knife, and it has very easy springs that I like. I have a suspicion that Dan, (Silenthunterstudios) had it modified for me, and I love the character of the carbon blades. But the Buck is a known item with a very long history with me under a very wide variety of circumstances all over the told. My old one took 25 years to wear out to the point of being retired, and these new ones are ac tally built better than the old ones. The springs on this one are as easy as the Northwoods, and the knife is a mor solid unit. Buck makes these things like Sherman tanks, but they do still slice very well.

A Buck 301 was my "one" knife for a third of my life before I became a knife nut. It looks like I may finish out with one now, thanks to JD Bear. It has a nice feel of symmetry to do so. A buck 301 in my pocket, my old Ruger standard model standing by, now if only I can lay my hands on a 1963 Ford Falcon I'll be back at the start of the circle. The wheel would have turned.
