Just curious how many forum members own a Dobruski.

I'd like to know, too. I am thinking about buying a CB-31. I really like the looks of it. I emailed TAYMO about it and received a reply with information. I can't imagine why they wouldn't want this information to be posted, so I'd be happy to share what I found out. Here was their reply to my email:

>Dear Chris,

>The CB31 has ATS-34 blade, stainless steel handles and inserts of >micarta (black or white) and costs $ 270.00 plus $50.00 for delivery. The same one with titanium handles goes up to
>$350.00. The waiting list is now around 1 year. No down payment >needed. Just let me know that you want it and I will give you an >order number.

>If you have more question, please contact me again.
>Best regards,

What sweet looking knives. I can only imagine how they flip. I also inquired about the CB-32, but erased the email because it was more expensive than the CB-31, and I'm not really into Damascus anyway.

Hope that helps someone! I'm thinking very seriously about buying one, but want to get my Tachyon first.

what do the 'CB's in the name mean? or is it just a random item number...I think it means Crazy Balisong!!!

Thanks for the pricing info. The only real draw back is the 1 year wait. If I remember correctly there was a postal shipping option, but it would take 1 month in shipping. If anyone has a Dobruski with stag inserts I would like to know how they affect the flipability of the Bali. I'm also interested in how well stag holds up to being dropped.

Hi Mr Yoda,
Mauro (Taymo's owner ) told me one time that CB means "Custom Balisong" .

Thanks for the pricing DriveMaster. That's about what my tax return is going to be... hmmmm... Nope, better pay some bills. :D

So can anyone post a seriously brutal review of the Dobruski. One day in the next two years or so, I want to order two matching customs to be EDC's, and I have to be certain they are highly flippable tanks. Anybody have a Dobruski for an EDC?

The CB## sequence is how Dobruski serializes his bali's. As in C(ustom) B(ali) #24 in my case.

Blasto: they are superbly made and address some of the shortcomings of the old BM Customs. The handles are smooth and comfortable with it's rounded shape and thick handle set. The inserts are pins in place with dovetails. The fit is outstanding. The action is smooth. Among the more "higher end" goodies are the ingenious latchgate (which has been vastly improved), very beautiful ground blade, and excellent customer service. My favorite feature? Price. They are well worth what he is charging. If you can live with brass (I can't) you can own a very nice example of the balisong for about the price of a Tachyon. I highly recommend his work.

Hey thanks Tony. That's just what I wanted to know. And I can't deal with brass either. I'm only going to do this once, so it'll be Ti, no inserts.

Have you ever handled a steel custom? If you're only going to do it once... you better think long and hard about it. I definitely prefer steel to Ti.

Well I put in my order.
Scimitar ATS-34 blade, stainless steel handles with inserts of Pau-Brasil

Good thing I have a year to save up for it.

I'm #60 on the list....ZZzzzz time to save up.

Dobruski is the only balisong I actually dream of owning. I wish I could win one or something :D . I'm afraid if I buy a Dobruski, I would be addicted and have to have them all.

Buying your first custom is a red pill or blue pill type of thing. Once you take the red pill, there's no turning back. ...nobody can tell you what a custom balisong feels like.

Damnit Penguin! I FINALLY made up my mind to go with Ti and now you go and make me second guess myself. ;) Great. :( And my only chance to handle a custom bali is to either buy one (and take a $300 gamble), or make the 2 day drive to Oregon during Bladeshow '02 in my POS Escort. :D

Now what am I going to do?? Grrrrrr.

A year wait? #60 on the list?

Dang...I'm glad I jumped early.

Mine is the bowie blade with SS handles and stag inserts. How does the stag hold up to dropping? You are kidding right?

The Dobruski would definately be in my EDC rotation if I lived in a state where it was legal to carry. It has a great cutting edge. But get a Benchmade 4X for twirling and tossing. My Dobruski only gets simple, well controlled openings. It is a good strong knife, but I really do not want to drop it any more than I want to drop any beautiful custom knife.

Lost Dog! more like Lucky Dog! Sweet balisong - that's CF inserts right? Really nice.. sigh.. order 51 and I got a loooong way to go.

Although the process takes a while.., all of you will be very pleased to get one of Mauricio's knives.., absolutely outstanding work as Tony mentioned! I have several, and two more orders pending.

Mauro goes out of his way to facilitate our orders as best he can.., and his response time is phenomenal!! The last post I made about a Dobruski piece.., I had email in 5 minutes!

Maybe Mauro has his pager connected to the Bali-Forum through Out-Dial-Notification. ;)
