Who realy uses ?

you should try monster.com, I found six listings, and have an interview next week.

Monster has just been hacked. Be careful on anything through them at the moment as some east europeans have accessed most of their database.

Another site was hacked last year and I had to report a "too good to be true" offer to their admin resulting in a major lockdown.

Err..to put this back on track...

I've taken my Tarani camping a few times, usually on an annual trip where we end up rigging several large tarps into a pavillion. The curved blade makes it easy to hook and slice paracord when the other hand is holding on to a tarp flapping in the wind; the ring makes it easy to haul from a pocket and hold with one finger.

Really, the only difference between a karambit and any hawkbill is the ring. Sal Glesser has commented on the utility of a curved blade with reference to the fishing/boating world.

And in terms of a self-defense blade style, it is extremely effective when coupled with an infighting methodology.

A self defense thread and no one has mentioned zombies? You will rue the day that you leave your karambit at home and the living dead attack.

A better question is, how many of you have actually used a karambit in a self defense situation? I am guessing few to none.

I'm guessing a bridge is missing a resident.

In my 'hood, bridge dwellers tend to use the ubiquitous mineralized and densely packed stone, also known as rock, bonker, or thumper. The man made version, concrete, is frequently used in smaller broken chunks of 12" to 16."

Esav is right, as a sometime rural delivery person, a kerambit would have been useful, especially approaching houses to deliver a parcel. Some folks let their grumpy little puppies forage for their sustenance, and I always questioned their neighborliness when I saw a mouthful of kerambit like teeth and glowing red eyes appear from under the porch. But, carrying a kerambit into a Federal building these days? Not.

I suspect those who are looking for employment who wish to exercise their hard won skills in self defense with a knife might apply with Aegis, Blackwater, Whackenhut, or various others specializing in security contracting and escort. Nonetheless, you will still be issued a firearm, simply because no one believes any adequate defense can be mounted with a knife, especially in this modern era of firearms.

Therefore, whether the OP is not an actual combat veteran or otherwise qualified to ask, the question, regardless of one's initial visceral response, is quite accurate in a sly way in pointing out the kerambit's overall uselessness in modern combat.

The trolls are possibly the ones pointing fingers in disbelief.

I previously had a karambit design that i loved. It was quick to deploy and stayed sharp although i put that blade through its paces considering i cut just about anything that was around that was going to the bin. It did extremely well considering the brand, an mtech. DON'T all shout at once, i know its not the best of blades but i got them almost for free.

What i couldn't get over is the face that the "claw" design is great for self defense and utility task, but that same design is also made for ripping. Unless i cut in the curve of the blade, it tended to rip instead of slicing which i thought it would. A case of wrong knife for the task or the knife i was using?

I played with the Boker Plus Karambit (a CLB design) in the shop, and while the quality/price was ok, I couldn't see myself using it for anything, as I am not in the least interested in using my knives for SD. Perhaps indeed as another poster mentioned, for carpet laying. But a cheap replacable blade cutter is ok for that as well.

Heck, how many of us have been in a self-defense situation period? I probably wouldn't use one for SD myself anyway (violence ain't a huge problem here), but it'd certainly make for an exotic utility fixed blade... and some of them have a nice look to 'em.

Would someone care to translate this post for me? Just the top two paragraphs, I'm OK after that.

I have... wasnt spectacular pulled it out the other guys backed down, they were packing and didnt want to really back off and i didnt want to turn my back and run ended up with us yelling in the middle of an interesection them about me not knowing who they were and theyre gang affiliation and me telling them not to get close to me or i would cut them... the whole affair was entirely stupid and thoroughly terrifiying. it started when they were yelling questions at me from across the street and then moving closer they got close enough that my SD instincts kicked in waved my emerson and pivoted in time to see these 2 asshats with their hands halfway down theyre pants..... i was in a real bad part of town... wilmington DE if it matters to anyone. the situation ended when we started moving out of the cross walk and near a corner which i promptly turned and bolted for my life.... so i dont know if that answers your question but i credit my emerson with saving my wallet if not my life. and plz no comments as to what i should have done or how youd have fought them (thats to any mall ninjas out there knife < Gun)

either way before i joined the military i used one when i worked in a deli to slice open packaging and meat a job at which it excelled:thumbup:

Karambits , (aside from their notoriety for hacking and slashing) excel in draw cuts, such as boxes, hides, fabrics, vegetable stalks, leather, rope, nets etc. They are extremely useful in the everyday world for these tasks. Unfortunately, thanks to the media, the un-informed, Liberals, and politicians, the karambit designed has been demonized as a slasher knife.

I'm going to ignore all the troll remarks and other useless mumbo-jumbo here in this thread and try to share my use and experiences with kerambits in an unbiased way.

I carry a Spyderco Kerambit along with a Police or Scorpius on days that I'm attracted to the solidity of stainless steel handles. It's something obsessive to me that I like my knives to match.

On days that I carry something of the Emerson line, usually a Commander, I will also carry one of their excellend Waved folding kerambits.

I recently purchased one of 5.11 Tactical's new Tarani C.U.B. Master kerambits and sometimes carry it all by its lonesome, or with one of my other favorite EDCs that doesn't having a matching kerambit counterpart.

The kerambit is said to have its first practical use in the agricultural industry of faraway places on other continents. The hawkbill blade shape is surprisingly practical, and is more appealing after experience with its use and implementation. I have never used a kerambit in a real self defense situation, but would not hesitate to do so. They are infinitely useful for precision work, rope and fibrous material cuts, and their handles are great for retention---many times I have used by kerambit instead of another folder on board a boat because it was securely attached to my hand, even if I opened the grip.

There are significantly more practical reasons as to why you might EDC a kerambit---like many things, they are not just purely defensive weapons---they are inherently useful tools.

One more distinct use---I use my kerambits to slice up trolls.

:D

well, ender, someone asked if a bridge was lacking a resident - as in a homeless dude. so I brought up what the homeless used around here for a weapon.

The second paragraph, Esav mentioned how a kerambit could be useful in the postal service. I agreed based on my experience dodging pets out in the sticks - lovable and loyal dobermans, pit bulls, weimaraners, etc. Statistics show less dog bites every year delivering the mail - either people are finally getting the hint, or more rural delivery people are buying silenced 10/22's, I don't know.

I guess it's a pet peeve of mine.

What the hell is a troll ? I forgot Im a " newb "

A troll is someone who posts to an online forum with the intent of disrupting that forum, or otherwise getting attention by riling people up. Your original post was seen as deliberately inflammatory.
