Who says you can't use barkies?

great review! a picture is worth a thousand words. Great picts concise words.

great job!

I heard there were some new Bravos coming out but I haven't seen any information about them. What have you heard?

Yes, I am serious because the Bravo1 effectively ends any search of mine for a better knife and you know what they say: " 2 is 1, and......." From the moment I picked it up, I could hear the music :D. The only thing I haven't done is put it to the test (back still healing). And you answered most of the questions for me.

It's the perfect size, thickness, feel, and from what I can tell so far, cuts like the devil, and not to mention, one beautiful looking knife. What more could you ask?

Doc

I think they will be in scandvik steel and a little longer but I am not 100% sure. There is also going to be a bravo-1 neck knife called the gunny (I want that one:D). I know what you mean about it being the last knife. From now on I can't say I need another knife, I want one.:(:D I want to try some other barkies like the micro canadian and the fox river.

Hey XMP, what is it that you don't like about the green and black linen? I'm trying to decide what combination for my next one, and the green and black is in the running.

Doc

Well, it looks very nice; its just that the linen is pretty slippery and I think I'd have preferred canvas. Overall I think canvas micarta is my favorite handle material -- nearly indestructible, nice and grippy, but doesn't create hotspots. I was originally just seduced by the appearance of the black and green, but hadn't at that point every had a linen micarta handle.

Thanks for the review (and lots of great pictures, everyone likes to look at pictures :D ). I've been wanting a Bravo-1 for a long time, but I'm going to wait until the Gunny and Bravo-II to come out first so I can make my decision on which one/s to get. ;)

Thanks for the reply. Actually before I ordered my Bravo1, I asked for opinions of canvas, linen, and G-10. The concensus seemed to be that the canvas had the best grip, so that's what I went with. Might influence my decision for the next one as well - the green looks pretty nice.

There was a post a little while ago about how to remove the slippery feel to the Barkies (maybe by grandpa?) but I can't locate it.

Great review:thumbup:

I have the Bravo with GCM handles as well and agree with all your findings. I have a JRE leather pouch sheath for mine, but I'm probably getting the new Sharpshooter sheath from BRKT as well.

Rarely use the kydex, but sometimes attach it to the straps on my pack.

Thats a damn fine review there. Mine is exactly like that one, minus the thumb ramp and I love it. You can oil that mikarta with mineral oil to preserve it.

Excellent review 3wolves!!! I too have that same Bravo-1...mine accompanied me to Iraq; absoutely love the knife. I'm current awaiting a leather horizontal sheath. I did use some light-grit sandpaper to rough up my Micarta handle for a better grip as well.

That was a very nice review the Bravo-1 is the next knife on my list got to move a few first.

Really nice review - lots of effort for your review. Well done. Of course, you cheated... starting with a Bark River, how could you make a 'bad' review?

Great job... I have the 'Gameskeeper' - close enough I don't 'need' a Bravo-1... but your review still makes me 'want' one! My bank account thanks you...

3wolves,

You hit that one out of the ballpark! Awesome!

I've been eyeing the B-1 for awhile now. Makes me want to get one even more!

I really like my Bravo too based on how it feels in the hand. I have not had a chance to use it like you did though. It looks like the knife for serious wood work. For me the ramp is a little in the way. I rounded the very top off a little to make it more comfortable. I tried the sheath in the vertical position on my weak side. With my belt it can lean forward at a 45 degree angle is is very comfortable and easy to crossdraw. I put a paracord tail on the sheath so I hold it down with my left hand and draw with my right. Works good.

I have been eyeing getting a Bravo-1 for a long time and this may have cemented it. Almost all my knives are customs, but this knife seems to be fantastic in its' design and construction. I have never owned a barkie--but I hear great things about them!

Great review and pics, thank you very much. I really liked the variety of knife in hand shots, they are hard to take and tell me more about the knife than just a posed shot will.

I don't really se a purpose to the thumb ramp, I never used it at all during a week of use but it doesn't get in the way and it looks nice so I don't mind it there.

What do you mean? In the 9th photo you ARE using it, and you are using it correctly.....I might add :D

Great Review!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, it's really no big deal, I do this every time I get a new knife, just never took pics before.:D
