Who The Heck Are Ya?

My name is John Barker. I live in north GA. I'm an Optometrist in my full time gig. I've made two complete knives and have two in the works right now. I'm also trying to finish my shop, so my knife making has slowed down some. I started out collecting, got bored, and sold the majority of my collection to buy a grinder and finish a room in my basement for a shop. All I can say is I love knives, and love making them even more! Let me say the people on this forum are great and very helpful. I appreciate being part of it.

I'm Robert Phelps, of Columbus Georgia. I'm a horticulture student at CTC. I've made a grafting knife, and have a few others I've started. Right now my basic equipment is a one-brick forge, a hacksaw, some files, my hands, and enough various sandpaper to keep my hands raw for a month:p

OK, I'm Andy Sharpe, Everybody needs" A.Sharpe Knife". No I did not change my name when I started making knives I was born with it.

My name isn't too shady but I would like to thank all the people who take the time to answer questions. I've been making knives for a few years but since I live remote in Alaska I haven't had anyone to learn from. I've picked up more here in the couple weeks I've had internet than all last year. THANKS!

I commercial fish for a few months of the year and make knives and custom boat tools when I'm home. I also do a little traveling for my newly published book of poetry. I would really enjoy getting together with anyone in SE Alaska to shop talk and swap ideas. Anyone here going to be at the music festival in Juneau this year, or know of any local knife shows?

My name is Ed Robertson. Complete newbie here. I have been lurking for some time and have learned a lot! I really appreciate it, too! Wanting to begin with stock removal and "graduate" to forging eventually. Plenty of newbie questions for you all coming up shortly.

Hey, I guess I'll chime in, my name is Tim from Sacramento CA, I have always liked knives and was buying a few here and there and told myself, "Hey I can make those". And you know what, I couldn't,:foot: but I have been practicing, have made 15 knives part time and have gotten a little better since starting about a year ago with advice and tips with all of the great help on this site and I finally got a Knifemaker membership so I can post pictures.

Thanks Mark for dragging this thread back out.

I appreciate all the response its had from everybody. It really is nice to meet you guys.

Please participate and ask any question you like. I have been on here daily since 1999 and I still ask questions when I stumped.

Hi, my name is Bob McCord and I'm new here . Actually I have been lurking for well over a year now, but didn't make any posts until recently. I would like to thank everyone, both old and new, for all the great information here. I am currently finishing up my first knife (no Stacy, it ain't done quite yet :o) and building my No-Weld Grinder.

I am originally from Mississippi, but live all over the world now. I am currently living in Alexandria, VA and will probably be here for another year or two before I have to head out overseas again.

Ken Kelley from the Appalachian foothills in eastern KY. I'm a retired USAF Medical Service Corps officer. Did my share of the flying business then settled here in the woods. I started getting the knife making bug about a year ago. Built a KMG clone, a couple of propane forges, and some other gadgets and have been learning how to use them. Don't have to worry about neighbors complaining about the noise because I don't have any close enough to hear. I've been experimenting with pattern welded steel but I don't have a power hammer...yet. That will be the next project.

Frank Barron here, I'm from Mississauga Ontario. I work at a local Television Station, as a Broadcast Engineer and have been making knives for about two years. Not a member of any guild yet, just the Tuesday night knife guys. Like to make hunters, and small knifes, will start making folders when my wife lets me but a mill.

Hi,
My name is Daniel Somerville, I am also new, new, new to knife making. After introducing myself here about a month ago, I was able to find a local knife maker really close who is willing to give me a hand in getting started. I am semi retired and living in the small hamlet of Grassland in Northern Alberta. I am in the process of building a small shop this summer. If god willing and the creeks don't rise, by this fall I will be forging knives.

This thread is a great idea and it is nice to read who is who.

Oh the name Crazy Horse is one I have had since I was very young, (55 years) when we played cowboys and indians, I always wanted to be Crazy Horse.
