Who uses their 'high-end', expensive knives?

So, who uses their knives that they pay upwards of $100 for? Or whatever value seems to be getting into 'I need to think about this purchase' territory?

I'd understand if the knife was bought solely to be a collectable, but when I bought my Benchmade 940, I had no other thought other than that I couldn't wait to use it! I paid full MRSP for it, and don't mind at all for two reasons; it is the first knife I saw that made me want to collect and use knives, and that I feel that I can get a good amount of use out of it. I certainly have so far!

I'm posting this the night before I go to buy a Spyderco Kris [I love kris style blades] and I'm not sure if it'll be a user or not, more likely an ultra-light use dress knife of sorts.

EDIT; They also have a Spyderco Phoenix in stock, along with the Damascus sprint versions of the Delica and Endura, and a few other discontinued blades. Oh, if I had more money... But second question! What's the long-term performance of Damascus steel like? I've never had the chance to use any type of it.

Most people here do this lol.
I carry and use my knives like no tomorrow.
I don't care how much they cost, they're amazing tools.
I fully intend on getting my money's worth out of the knife I just bought.

Of course knives aren't just tools, but beautifully made and designed prize possesions.
But all of my regular EDC knives are upwards of $100, because that's just what I like. I buy knives to use them.
I used to have cheaper EDC knives but somehow they all disappeared and I got a few expensive knives. I feel like I need more.

Most of the new kids here though can't even think about spending $100+ on a knife to carry and use and get wear marks all over. Though they change their minds.
After a while they just don't care and we all end up EDCing our more expensive toys.

I cannot afford to collect them. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I probably would collect knives if I could. But I can't. That doesn't mean I enjoy the ones I have any less. I have a lot of great knives. But ALL are users.

Until I started reading this group a few years go I had never seen so many knives that were "users" that were in pristine condition. Just perfect. And when they fell out of perfection, there are those that send them back for "spa treatment". Never heard of that that, either.

I decided that there are a lot of users here that really put their knives through their paces and use them for daily work and frequent recreation like me. But there seems to be even more that just enjoy having a nice group of knives in their possession, the cleaner and more polished the better. Nothing wrong with that.

High-end means different things to different folks. It has a different meaning for me now, compared to six months ago. I have several that are NIB that I don't carry. However, everything else that I buy is off the Exchange here, and so is quite likely to have been used to some extent. I prefer them "used" so that I can also carry them without fear of hurting them. That's more fun than having them hidden in a safe.

I have a couple knives passed down from family memebers that I don't use due to sentimental value but other than that, just about every other knife I've owned has been used at some point or another-most extensively. My most expensive knife which is my XM-18 3.5 is my daily carry knife and on-duty knife. Plenty of marks/scratches on the ti/blade to vouch for it. :D (they don't show much in pics though)

That's a good way to go about things, I think.

Gotta agree with you, for the most part. It seems like I got most of the taste for knives worth over $200 out of my system, as since I've bought the 940, I think spending more will be reserved for special cases. Like that Phoenix, perhaps.

Couple more user pics...Don't really have a reason to own these if I dont use em.

I paid full retail up here in Canada for my Buck Paradigm Pro and I use it all the time. Not sure if that's a high end knife here but to me it's my most expensive. I love it!

I'm the same way; I've used all of my knives at one time or another, I don't think I've 'babied' any of them yet.

I can't keep knives in a box without using them at least a few hundred cuts!.. unless I find out I don't like using them for whatever reason, and that seems to happen most with my cheaper knives.

I WISH I had knives passed down to me like that! I'm the only 'knife guy' in my family. Nice pictures, great looking blade!

It'd have been nice to get into knives at that age, haha. What do you typically use your fixed blades for? I live in a city and only have a SOG Seal Pup for the odd camping trip.

I'm glad to see another Canadian here, and even happier that you're getting good use out of it!

i use my and carry my XM-18 3.5, whenever i can. its meant to be used. it is what its designed for, after all.

I'll use my knives when I finally buy an edgepro or wicked edge :D

I don't own a sharpener but I've been stropping against a wide strap of leather. As long as it's done fairly frequently, you'll keep a very good edge! At least, I do.

Standard cutting(cordage, cardboard, etc), splitwood fires, cleaning critters, making traps, etc. I mainly use fixed blades in the woods but sometimes I'll carry one for daily tasks.

Buy two, a user, and a safe queen. Several Severtech guys I know have done this.

Unfortunately, they only have one of them in stock. I hear they're hard to find, actually. Even if they were less expensive, I don't think I'd get a second one unless something happened to the first.

A lot of outdoors work, then. :D Just thinking about it makes me want to go out camping. Maybe when the weather gets a little less bone-chilling.
