Who uses their 'high-end', expensive knives?

I WISH I had knives passed down to me like that! I'm the only 'knife guy' in my family. Nice pictures, great looking blade!

Thanks! I'm the only knife guy in my family as well but my grandfather and great grandfather always carried a knife so I have a couple of those.

Do you have any pictures of them? If not, what knives are they? My grandfather had carried a multi-tool for much of his life, and for a while, a Buck 110.

I do. The one that's getting daily pocket time and more than it's share of use is my Hinderer XM-18 3" slicer. I paid almost $700 for it.

No pics as of now but I can post some tomorrow. One is a two bladed slippie with "Ideal USA" tang stamps and white plastic scales and the other is an old toothpick pattern slipjoint with stag scales.

The most expensive knives I still own are just around the 100-120$ mark, which isn't all that much for most people, but they get used just like the rest of my knives.

I only have handmade slipjoints, every one gets used.life is to short to put them in a safe

I think the only knife I own that cost over $100 is my ESEE Junglas and I use it all the time! I would love to collect knives but I have this thing where I only buy/keep knives I intend to use.

As an aside I do plan on buying a Survive! EDC-4.x whenever they become available in ELMAX again. They're over $100 and you better believe I'll be using it!

I use all my knives, but try not to abuse them, from my Spyderco sprints to my Hinderer to my customs from makers on the forums here. To me there is not a lot of point in spending the cash and leaving them in a drawer to gather dust.

Ive carried my sebenza almost every day since i got it. Great user and even great knives like my sage 2, pm2, have a hard time kicking it out of my pocket. If the chore is something really hard or something that would scratch the blade excessively i usually use my mora or endura instead, but the sebenza does most of my work.

I think it's great that so many folks do use their high-end and handmade knives... that's what they're for! Scratches and patina and yes, evidence of having been sharpened make a cool knife look even cooler.

I started out not using my knives over, now my main edc and edc rotation consists of "higher end knives" the cheapest being the kershaw speedform 2. I always hated people who bought nice things and let them sit, than realized I was one of them! Haha.

I'm carrying my most expensive knife today. DDR HD Maxx. Cost me $750 and well worth it.

I use everything I own. If I won't use it I won't buy it.
I deployed with a secondhand JF before that cost over a grand.
As far as I'm concerned, that's exactly why it cost so much; because it is worth every penny of use.

The answer given by many is a firm "Depends...."

I just got three SOG fixed blades...one of which is the Agency. That knife ain't goin' nowhere but my safe. Why? Because it's purty! Too purty to mar its fair blade coating!!! It's essentially a combat/self defense knife. If I ever needed such a knife, I'd use my Cold Steel OSS, which uses the same blade steel and is just as well balanced and is cheap. In fact, it's a better defense knife. But the incredible thing about the Agency is its polished TiNi blade surface. Gorgeous! And there are other knives with Damascus blades and beautiful handles. But there are great knives that I do use...so, again, it all depends.

I use my Kershaw Tilt and multiple Spyderco Sprints. When I was first collecting, I was quite hesitant about using my higher end knives. I find I get more enjoyment out of them if I actually carry and use them.

Everything I buy I use. I don't have the money to pay for something and not use it. If I buy it, I fully intend on using it.

When I buy a high end mid tech or custom I have to decide if it's good enough to keep or if I should just sell it. If I decide I'm keeping it, it goes straight into the pocket and is EDC'd taking on whatever tasks are at hand, hard or easy it doesn't matter.

I use the hell out of my Classic Micarta Sebbie, my XM18 3.5, and the one I beat on the most is my Les George VECP because it can take it!

Like they say, if you cant afford to use it, you can't afford it.

My EDC folder is a large Bradley Alias, it cost me $300. I've used it for warehouse work and construction work.

I also EDC a fixed-blade. I alternate between an Entrek Cobra ($135), and a Wilson model 25 ($300). I also use these for work.

I'm not wealthy by any means, in fact I'm quite poor (I bought those knives during better times), if I had it to do over agin I doubt I would have bought them as I didn't really need them (I had less expensive knives to use). But I liked them and I bought them with the intention of carrying/using them so that's what I do.

The Bradley and Wilson are two of the most expensive knives I've ever owned (I've never paid more than $300 for a knife). And despite the cost of the Wilson, it hasn't stopped me from taking a grinder to it and modifying it.

I have a couple knives passed down from family memebers that I don't use due to sentimental value but other than that, just about every other knife I've owned has been used at some point or another-most extensively. My most expensive knife which is my XM-18 3.5 is my daily carry knife and on-duty knife. Plenty of marks/scratches on the ti/blade to vouch for it. :D (they don't show much in pics though)

Love these photos!

Many here use their knives, some cost tens of dollars, some hundreds and a few thousand(s). It matters not the cost, but the value.

I used to not use my high end knives, but then I realized that it's stupid to carry a knife that I paid so much for that's designed to be used hard, and to let it sit there unused. So, I sold off all of my potential beater knives and left the high end ones in my collection for use. The most expensive knife that I use is worth about $290. The cheapest is $70.
