I posted this on the Benchmade Forum:
I am sorry but why doesn't Benchmade listen to us and our almost universal (from what I have seen) disdain for the BT2 coating? And why do so many of us accept the compromise when told we have no choice? I don't know what I am missing, but I just don't get it. Though we may be a minority (and a small one at that) of the Benchmade-buying public, we are the enthusiasts who live, eat, and breath the hardware. I don't buy the argument that the public at large probably demands the coating. And if someone spends over $100 for a knife, then they should accept a modicum of responsibility for taking care of it! I have several Dozier D2 knives. I live on the coast where the salty fog settles in most evenings and mornings. I wipe my Doziers down about, maybe, once or twice a year at most, and after each use. Not even a hint of corrosion. None. Nada.
I love the AFCK design. I love the Axis lock. I hate BT2 because it looks like s**t after even light use. I will not buy a BT2 Axis AFCK in D2. Satin? Definitely. I will buy several. But BT2? No. I will lose out on a great design, but my disdain for this coating is greater than the desire or need to buy a knife which otherwise suits me perfectly. And what puts the nail in the coffin is Benchmade's perceived or real lack of responsiveness on this issue against the feedback given on this forum. Sheesh.
